My cell phone stopped charging at 22% today. It's not the charger or the outlet; I tried others. It had developed a slight crack in the screen a week or so ago, so I had already ordered a replacement from Amazon. I tried the new battery in the old phone, the old battery in the new phone, and every combination of chargers and outlets: this motherfucker won't charge even to 20% now. Ugh.
Is it possible it's the SIM card? That's the only constant here. I tried everything else. :|

That said there is hardware that interfaces that battery inside the phone - Simple stuff like a batt temp sensor external to the battery and right underneath - Broke hardware more than possible telling the phone the battery is fully charged when it ain't - Forecast is usually not so much so good for that phone.

Syntax is right here I think. The SIM card is going to have fuck all effect on how your battery charges. It's probably time to cash in that phone insurance or get a new phone.

Okay... wait. TWO separate phones won't charge above 20%?? On different chargers? Are you using the correct chargers for the respective phones? Some devices have a voltage drop in between plug and battery and require a certain number of Amperes (well, usually milliAmperes) in order to charge properly. (For example, HP firesale touchpads notoriously do not charge up on standard chargers because they require a very specific amount of power.)

Some devices have a voltage drop in between plug and battery and require a certain number of Amperes (well, usually milliAmperes) in order to charge properly. (For example, HP firesale touchpads notoriously do not charge up on standard chargers because they require a very specific amount of power.)

Correct, I have tried multiple chargers. It is charging right now on a USB to my computer and I will see if it goes past 20% this time.

Chargers put out the same Voltage/Current over a wide range of line voltage changes. If the AC drops below charger specs - Usually the charger will not charge at all.
Yes for nit pickers its a blanket statement that has exceptions. Exceptions go back to era of flip phone models.

Yes. You are actually the only helpful person ITT (and perhaps on the whole chan), so I will explain what my investigation discovered.
1. Phone No. 1's battery went bad.
2. I fired up Phone No. 2 with Battery No. 2, which of course came with Phone No. 2.
3. I did not realize that chargers that worked fine for Phone No. 1 might not work for Phone No. 2. The three chargers I tried were not quite compatible with Phone No. 2.
4. I tried Charger No. 4 this morning. Charger No. 4 is a high-quality USB cable. IT CHARGED COMPLETELY.
5. Both Phone No. 1 and Phone No. 2 are fully charged now. Battery No. 2 works on both of them, as long as I use Charger No. 4. Phone No. 1, with Battery No. 2, would also be fine with any of the other chargers.

Yay! Glad I could help, Ms. Beckyderp! It can help to read the voltage and amperage that a charger puts out. It should be written somewhere in really small type somewhere on the charger. A lot of devices take a very specific charge.
