i think labels are weird. our whole generation was taught that labels are as bad as stereotypes and we resisted labels. it was, at the time, progressive to ignore labels because everyone felt that labels reduced people to words like "gay" or "black" or "feminist." but now that's all reversed and the people who rejected being labeled (and marginalized becuase of it) are the ones who want the labels. i mean, we used to use labels to oppress people, and now those same labels are being used to (again) single people out for special treatment. it's bizarre, bud. you may be young enough to only know what it's like to embrace labels, but for us who think of them as a collar and chain it's unsettling.
why the fuck do people insist on being singled out, labeled, and treated differently becuase of it. it's fucking nuts.

Labels can be dangerous things, yes. I won't bore you a whole tangent on it, but I've seen psychological experiments showing that labels can have profound effects on people. Good as well as bad. And zealous attachment to such labels only enhances such effects.
Conversely, I do think there's such a thing as going too far in the other direction. Of wanting to erase or ignore people or "labels" who just don't fit a perceived norm. That can lead to bigotry too. It can lead to bigotry being ignored, or those who are openly different being viewed as "abnormal" and "deviant" for using such labels.
Ideally, I think it's best that these names can exist, but we can all understand that they do not wholly define us. Somebody can be black or trans or aro ace, but society and themselves understand that this is just defining one aspect of them. Maybe that outcome is tough for humans to reach, but I think it's the best outcome.

I think the difference is between having a label that describes you versus a label that defines you.
Like. Saying "I'm gay" is a descriptor, and "you're a faggot" is defining.

Yeah. Turns out they don't really have sexual urges and really only initiate/engage in sex acts when they are in a panic/depression/this weird phase of super low self esteem arising from abusive situations. Basically sex isn't really a good thing for them.
