Gender dysphoria is a proven biological condition. It's independent of what society is doing or not doing.
As for gender, it's not really a straightforward thing. There is such a thing as innate gendered behaviours and gendered predispositions, but at the same time, society and environmental factors have a large impact on genders. To further complicate the issue, the influence of these factors can vary between individuals.

Gender as a word has several usages, one of which indeed is simply a synonym for sex. To demand that we all follow someone's academic ideas and writings with the newer usage is not appropriate. No one likes a scold.
As to a person's feeling that their mind or whatever you want to call it does not match their body with regards to male/female, the idea of social construct is irrelevent anyway, because a person's feeling of being one thing or another is part of the internal sense of self, independent of what other people think they see.

BSTc disturbs me for a number of reasons:
1. A deliberately small selection of cadavers were picked for study.
2. Nothing actually suggests pre-natal determination of its size except for the back-inferrential deduction reliant claim that because an equally small selection of heterosexual male cadavers on a similar hormonal regime to the transsexual sample had not seen reductions in their BSTc size, that "it must simply be". Post-hoc-ergo-propter-hoc anyone? Forgetting the lack of empirical guarantee, to say the BSTc had been connected to their transsexualism on the assertion that this tiny sample of individuals possessed such a phenomena is absolutely ridiculous when a larger look at all transsexual cadavers are probably going to reveal after time that this claim is bullshit.
3. To suggest that other regions of the brain are not prone to such in-utero effects by extension of this morphological rubric remaining the only consistent one over time stands to repudiate the consistency of Lettuce's beloved Cohenitically-oriented claims. I would love, for example, to see autists end up getting discovered of their own BSTc sizes completely inconsistent with the predominant hypermale theorem, though I notice that no cadavers of such individuals have been investigated for this specific feature of morphology as of yet.
4. Truscum bastards cling onto it as honest reinforcement fodder for the internalization of the legitimacy of their own experience at the expense of others', despite honestly not knowing if it's even a reflection of a neurological makeup specific to themselves. One can't help but laugh uproarously at the fall from the grace of pride they'll inevitably and deservingly sustain when it's discovered they're more like the subhuman rote-automaton hypermale than those "pretenders" they'd derided.

yeah. idk, you go in to a psychiatrist as a super skinny person and call yourself fat and go to extremes to be thinner and they'll label you anorexic and get you help.
you go to a shrink and tell them that you're actually the opposite sex and they'll help you mutilate your genitals. seems odd that one body dysmorphia is treated so vastly different than others. it'd be like a skinny anorexic person saying, "i'm so fat," and the doctor saying, "we'd better get you some liposuction then, fatso."
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), also termed body dysmorphia or dysmorphic syndrome, but originally termed dysmorphophobia, is a mental disorder characterized by an obsessive preoccupation that some aspect of one's own appearance is severely flawed and warrants exceptional measures to hide or fix it.
how does this not exactly fit transgendered people? why are they such special snowflakes that we have to bend reality to fit their views? idk, i don't really care either, people can do whatever they want but it just seems weird that the medical establishment considers it separate or unique among other body dysmorphic disorders.

sure, but realistically the proposition of counseling someone with body dismorphic disorder until they are suitable comfortable with who they are seems like just as long a process as coaching someone through gender reassignment surgery. i'm sure there's exactly the same amount of money to be had either way. you're still looking at years, and years of therapy either way. so why choose the route that causes the most changes? i mean fuck, what if it IS dysmorphia and they'll never be happy and now they've made irreversible surgical changes. there's actually a surgery for testicle removal without vaginoplasty. they'll just cut out your reproductive organs. seems so fucking drastic.
would they cut out an anorexic girl's stomach? fuck no. that would be in-fucking-sane, even though she could totally live just fine without one.

@647,918 (squeegee) > how does this not exactly fit transgendered people?
With BDD, the person is having some disconnect with their perception. They either imagine a flaw, or vastly overexagerrate an existing one.
Meanwhile, those with gender dysphoria aren't delusional. They can correctly percieve their bodies, and reality. The issue is that their brain is wired in a way that conflicts with their body, not that they have a poor perception of their body.

There's little evidence that this is as true with the condition of gender dysphoria as it is with transsexualism proper, to be honest. And definitionally it's not a requirement. Solely, you literally have to be convinced that your responses, mannerisms, wiles and the identity centered around those are incongruent with biological sex. It's not a delusion in the sense that it's culturally conventional enough, i.e. follows paradigms of regarded gender norms. However, it may fall under delusion through the technicality that in many cases, they do fail to convince the larger public body.
Still, that isn't sufficient to evoke the entire criteria-set in a wide-rangingly satisfactory sense.

About as effective as trying to reprogram a gay person. You're going against a very innate biological impulse.
And "who they are" is a bit more complicated than just their body, really.
> i mean fuck, what if it IS dysmorphia and they'll never be happy and now they've made irreversible surgical changes.
There's actually quite a specific diagnosis for gender dysphoria. Here is what the NHS says.
In theory, there should not be as much confusion as you seem to be assuming. Additionally, I have read at least one study that found happiness increasing in post-op transsexuals. So it is addressing the issue.
