If you don't know what to look for, then unfamiliar faces can look the same. Certain cues that work with one race (cheekbones, skin tone, hairline, hair color, eye color, epicanthic folds, chin cleft, etc.) might not work with others. It even works in an inter-species manner. People who spend a lot of time with animals can usually tell them apart because they learn to look for certain facial and body language features. A crazy cat lady could probably tell you if a cat is male or female just by watching it walk across the floor, much like you could (generally) tell if another human is male or female just by looking at them move or even their silhouette. It's a lot of learned visual cues m9.
