I use Acestream which is a torrent streaming program that works really well. I used to only use it to watch sportsball games and PPV fights, but it works grate for Discovery, History, Nat Geo etc. I have maybe 10 broadcast TV channels, and they are complete shit with last seasons episodes playing and last weeks topical daily shows. I watch my favourite shows from file lockers usually, or sometimes I torrent them. It's kind of nice to have Discovery and Sky Sports etc streaming for free. Not all of the channels have an English audio track, Nat Geo Wild is Russian only, but Nat Geo Wild HD has an English option for example.
There's lots of sports channels, lots of porn, and pretty much everything that is available on Russian TV. You have to install Acestream first, at acestream.org Just right click the player > Audio Track > Track 2 - [English] and you're good to go.

It's just the History Channel, etc. There's 500 channels but most of them are pointless is you don't speak Russian

I don't know anyone that watches Sony Sci Fi channel because it is only available in Italy, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Kazakhstan and Bulgaria. But it is in English and has old Stargate episodes. Channel surfing takes 30 seconds or so to buffer...

It's a torrent client, and the player is a fork of VLC. It's on Kodi(XBMC) and there is a Linux repo. I've used it for at least a year with almost no problems. Early on a couple of ads showed up in my browser and I think they were hijacking 10% of the browsers ads and substituting their own. I use an adblocker, but a couple of Russian language ads appeared so I just blocked them too. Problem solved

Sure it is. That was a long time ago, and it was only in my mind that the two things had anything to do with each other. I also d/l lots of warez from Russian crackers, and torrents from rutracker etc.

Oh and it works like lots of streaming sites where pausing it when you start for a couple of minutes is helpful. But when you pressed pause it opened up a Russian clash of clans type of site in your browser. That happened for a few weeks before it went away. This happened over a year ago.
I think the guys were figuring out how to make a couple of bucks from their creation.
