No time travel involved. Kubrick just had a lot of foresight. It was all logical deduction on his part.
Just by examining the world around him, he successfully deduced that video games would rise in popularity and complexity, inevitably leading to the creation of machinima and one breakout company growing successful from it. He also rightly predicted that anime would find popularity in the United States, and that this would in turn influence the aforementioned company to produce a webseries inspired by anime, which would logically include a well-dressed male villain with a hat, cane, and eye marking.
Of course, he said all of this at the time, but nobody really believed him because logically deducing the future is a very subjective thing. Only today can we appreciate how ahead of its time this particular reference was.

I thought we already had a charismatic sociopath ready for a bit of the old in-out in-out with a young devotchka...

Time travel is very possible. Every day we are traveling forwards in time at a rate of 24 hours/day. Please stop spreading misinformation.
