Topic: (spoilers may comply) Do you agree with George Lucas?

When he said that the new Star Wars movie was merely an unoriginal mess of a film that pandered too much to nostalgia and that George managed to make each film of the original and prequel trilogies different?

I think he has a valid point, but that's also a big part of the films success
It's more of the same but that's what people want from Star Wars right now
It wasn't very messy tho surprisingly

People also said the same about The Phantom Menace being good and now look where we are.
Is it too soon to judge The Force Awakens?

...no
im not a Star Wars buff. I barely remember the original movies. the only thing I remember about the prequels was the stupid pod race.
the force awakens was a decent action movie imo
and the last action movie I liked was probably like big trouble in little China

i just rewatched the prequels recently. never again. i'm happy that the new movie at least gave us what we want instead of overwrought love stories and a very forced story arc. the politics were just terrible. laughable, actually. at least with force awakens we got what fans love and none of the shit fans hated. yes it pandered, but it wasn't tedious. so. good stuff.

One should not pander to fans because they literally do not know what they want.

Come to think of it, literally nobody sat down and discussed a single thing at any length in The Force Awakens.

yes I especially liked the resistance planning like "ok, so we're gonna go in there and shoot at 'em"
but it was a solid star war

You mad? Fans should never dictate anything in their preferred media.

honestly if they were going to do what fans wanted then they would have just turned the Star Wars Extended Universe into movies. but they didn't, the created a new story, but, they at least listened to what fans hated about the prequels and didn't do any of that shit. then they listened to what fans loved the most about the original trilogy and double downed on everything. that's all they did, they didn't, like, sit down and poll the fans and serve up something by aggregate.

Do you agree that The Force Awakens was truly a nihilistic sequel to Return of the Jedi?
