Topic: I never understood this about Fallout.

There are plenty of cars around and people still use technology. How come there aren't any brilliant people willing to fix up the cars found scattered across North America or even use the parts to construct a new one?

Mad Max is known for being a post-apocalyptic society with automobiles. How come nobody in the Americas thought about using automobiles and possibly an alternative fuel sources?

Now I do not see any automobile mods possibly working for Boston in Fallout 4 as the streets are way too narrow, but how come Bethesda hasn't ever thought about doing mounts or cars?

You can drive a nuclear-powered car in Fallout 2. Thanks.

there was a mission in new vegas - the one where you pick up the dude voiced by Danny Trejo - where they reference a working automobile
like the danny guy I forgedt his name. Raul. raul is like 'this super mutant made me fix his car and he's talking about his car all the time'
i think they figure the point is to walk and explore, not to drive, there are games for driving etc and they would be right to think that.
also there was a shitty motorcycle mod for new vegas
and if you haven't noticed the cars in fallout would be total death traps anyway
are u not satisfied w/ vertibirds

The bike mod was good but the game crashed if you went too fast

Synth Shaun does make a comment about the cars "not working anymore", so I guess the official line is that they're all trashed of something. But then you've got things like missile turrets and the Prydwen being built, so that seems a bit silly.

But, personally, I prefer not having cars. I like moving around on foot, it's more dangerous and challenging. If you threw cars in there, I'm concerned things would get too easy. To say nothing of the enemies also presumably getting cars, which would change the whole dynamic of combat.

do you not use fast travel either?

Fast travel can be considered a form of cheating by some.

Yeah, I played New Vegas once without fast travel and it was really good. I thought having a car in the game and not having fast travel would be really cool.

The west coast United States seems fitting for automobiles. I cannot see how a car mod for Fallout 4 would work when all of the streets are narrow as fuck and blocked off by debris and walls.

I hope Bethesda makes another game set out in the Mojave.

Hardly ever.

I'll use it if I need to go to like 4 settlements to do minor shit, otherwise I'll walk manually.

I try to bum vertibird rides or walk otherwise

it's like tomb raider with cars and war boys and really bad dialogue
it's fun to drive around the desert but that's about it

Unlikely. They would just be rehashing a previous Fallout game that wasn't too long ago. It would be like the next Elder Scrolls going back to Cyrodiil when we've still got places like Highrock, Hammerfell or Valenwood to see.

Besides, why go to somewhere we've already been when there's so much more of America to explore through the lens of Fallout? Louisiana or Texas could be interesting locations for a Fallout game.

@644,211 (A)
I totally get how a brand can enhance a game, but it's not as appealing if somebody isn't a fan of that particular brand.

Maybe. But, barring an invasion, NCR civil war or outright collapse, I'm not sure the NCR is unstable and dangerous enough to have a Fallout game in. They have a huge army maintaining order.
