Topic: Father is lying! (fallout 4 spoilers)

Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E started this discussion 9 years ago #49,308

We kill Kellogg and remove a part of his brain inorder to experience his memories.

In the scene where we enter the house in Dimond city, Kellogg doesn't refer to the kid as a synth but "the kid" and he is called Shaun.

I think it's impossible that this was all just a deception by "father" to trick, it also doesn't make sense that he was testing a replica of Shaun.

Nha, "father" isn't Shaun. The Institute does terrible things and Shaun was only for one thing, i don't know where I'm going with this. But Shaun isn't Shaun, especially father.

The date is shown on your pipboy. The time did actually pass. There is no reason for Kellogg to know that synth-Shaun is a synth, so he probably wasn't told. Even if he did know it's a child-synth... It's still a child. Or a kid, if you will.

Yeah but you gotta ask, why have Kellogg mind that supposed synth child?

Father just knew how much of a threat you would be, and it was all to fool you?

Why wouldn't father just send for you?

Or maybe he was testing the synth... But in what way? Kellogg isn't the science type and Shaun got teleported away quickly...

Then it just doesn't make sense father is older looking than Kellogg yet he has lived less then Kellogg and refuses life extending technology simply "just because"

> Yeah but you gotta ask, why have Kellogg mind that supposed synth child?
he was his #1 guy who he trusted for stuff in the world above. and the kid needed to be up there to give you the chance to search for him. more on that later.

> Father just knew how much of a threat you would be, and it was all to fool you?
not really. you are just his parent from the past, i dont think he knew that you were a lunatic murderer yet at that point

> Why wouldn't father just send for you?
he literally tells you this: he wanted to know if you would search for him, instead of just assume all is lost and give up. he is also kind of a dick.

> Or maybe he was testing the synth... But in what way? Kellogg isn't the science type and Shaun got teleported away quickly...
testing if it manages to function properly as a child in an uncontrolled environment?

> Then it just doesn't make sense father is older looking than Kellogg yet he has lived less then Kellogg and refuses life extending technology simply "just because"
first of, father has definitely lived longer than kellogg. technically, he is over 200 years old. he was a baby when he got frozen so he probably didnt pick up much, but still, dude's old. other than that, not sure what youre trying to say.

Father did that to lure you to Kellogg (and ultimately the Institute). Because he wants to you to have your revenge on Kellogg.

He definitely explains this at some point, though I don't recall when.

Also, I think it was a brave move for Bethesda to call him Kellogg. It would and did lead to Cornflakes jokes, but they did it anyway.

So father was simply testing Shaun and/or giving you a reason to not give up?

That just doesn't make sense.

What I'm trying to say is that i think Shaun actually is about 10 but now thinking about it, i guess the story could be so odd that the whole deal with father sending synthetic Shaun to Dimond city with the murderer of his mom inorder to see if you would give up on him makes sense.

I however think they got Shaun and used him. No longer had any idea what to do with him and so he hung around.

Later father creates a synthetic Shaun in order to manipulate you and have you think he is actually your son.

it was not Shaun, it was synth-Shaun. for all we know he has a dozen of them on standby. the synth-kid isn't special.

they explained that the institute kidnapped shaun to get some of that perfect untouched dna from before the war, which they used to build synths. shaun obviously hung around, grew up there, became influential because he never knew anything else and probably didn't know they murdered his mother. etc etc

Keep in mind, Shaun doesn't truly care about his dead parent. He basically says this if you ask.

Also, that's not exactly why he does it. He says he knew you would search for him. The Kellogg ruse was to let you kill Kellogg and then come and work with the Inatitute.

No, he knew Kellogg killed his other parent. The Sole Survivor can even get mad over how he doesn't care.

Also, it's funny to think that all of the Gen 3 synths you meet are, in a way, your grandkids.

So he doesn't care about his dead mom but he goes through all of that trouble of creating a synth of him younger self and have Kellogg keep one of them for a brief time in Dimond city... All to find out if you would search for him?

And then very luckily Kelloggs memory doesn't reveal this but instead conveniently gives the wrong impression?

In his old age, he starts to wonder about "what if" and wants to connect with his surviving parent. He does explain this.

But still. Anon b says he is older than Kellogg which is true but not biologically.

So if he is Shaun then he would have easily gotten to live longer but he lies and says he simply chooses not to live longer.

I find it a lot easier to believe the whole business with going into the Institute and finding synthetic Shaun was a deliberate act to confuse you and have you work for him instead.

I mean why would Kellogg lie when you first meet him and refer to him as a kid and mention Shaun is fine and being looked after when he is either going to kill you or be killed.

This whole idea that the Institute is trying to kill you yet also Creating replicas of your son just to see if you would give a fuck simply makes too little sense.

Oh, that's not the Institute doing that, exactly. Father orders that himself. You can even find a holotape where a female Institute scientist gripes that he's ordering them to make a synth version of his child self.

And again, bud, he's not doing it to test if you care. He knows you care. And just advancing the main quest implicitly confirms that your character cares.

So if I don't care I shouldn't play Fallout 4? Got it.

Yeah okay so he controls the Institute which is why he gets to order those child synths. Yet heaven forbid he allows his father to be unharmed by his institution.. Except when he finally reaches it and everyone is honored to have him.

Besides why did Kellogg call Shaun a kid even though either one of you would die, why lie?

Ugh doesn't matter. This whole thing is a headache.

Okay, we can stop.

What weapons are you using? Found any cool legendary items?

I found an explosive combat shotgun. But I had to dump it because it was too powerful. I also have a 10mm that can freeze people, it's very useful.

Sounds cool, don't know why you would dump stuff like that.

Since.... As much as its embarrassing to say, I'm playing on very easy so I don't find a lot of cool stuff.

The coolest thing was a laser musket/shotgun that also deals 25 bleed damage.

Eh, it made the game too easy, even on survival difficulty. I was blowing away whole groups of enemies just by charging in and firing wildly, so it had to go. Though I later found an incendiary version so it's all good.

That laser musket sounds cool. I wanted a good legendary laser musket myself, but I never found one I liked.
