I agree, that was odd. But I wasn't really bothered by it. The way I see it, the companions automatically knowing each other is just a minor video game thing, like how a lawyer can apparently build turrets and generators.
If you never recruit Dogmeat, there's a better scene where Nick introduces him to you. Calls him over using a high frequency whistle.

fallout 4 felt too much like fallout 3

I see. Still... It's just not the same as fallout 3. Maybe it's because I was 14 when I first played fallout 3, but fallout 4 was such a letdown. I miss the times I was chain smoking and drinking while interrogating npcs.
I respect you to much for judging you on those words, anyone else? That person would be worse than Hitler to me.

I wish the companions understood that. All of them mock me for picking up bars of soap and desk fans, when I shall be turning them into missile turrets later.

The lamest thing about Fallout is how you max at a special stat, then you learn about bobble heads. Then when you have started collecting the bobble heads you learn about the almost perfect perk. Maybe I'll do a definitive perfect playthrough at some point.

One thing I do like about Fallout 4 is how much smarter the enemies are compared to 3 and New Vegas. They'll take cover, they'll lay down suppressing fire, they'll even fall back if you're somewhere they can't get to you. Makes the fights way more interesting.
I've still had to not use power armour, not take some of the perks, and mod up enemy damage to get a challenge out of it. But fighting is still fun.
