The Mass is Christ upon the cross, as a singular event outside of time. When we attend Mass, we are literally at the foot of the cross, worshipping Jesus, God made man, dying for our sins.

At the end of Mass, we literally receive His real actual Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, which has merely retained the appearance (including all scientifically measurable attributes) of bread. We believe the Holy Eucharist is indeed truly God based in part because of His words to us documented in Sacred Scripture, and His willingness to allow people to stop following Him because they took Him literally at that time as well.
