pretty stoked. it'll come with a couple of full blown games too. pretty sure the hand tracking controls aren't ready till later this year, but idk. i also hear they are "done" and work great. will totally be getting those.

it's $275 and it's obvious you haven't tried it.

wow, $275 isnt nearly as much as i was expecting. fuck. now i might just wind up getting it instead of waiting for some competitors to pop up like a sensible person.

might be worth it to wait for the vive, evidently they've got some really cool stuff going on with the camera on the front. that and the oculus controllers won't be ready till q2. and the 275 price might be wrong, could be 350. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/htc-vive-pre-first-look,30894.html
skip to 9 minutes in the video to see the new "breakthrough" tech they've been hinting about

For usability purposes, it's usually worth it to wait on new hardware. Much like software, you generally don't want the 1.0 release unless you're a crazy nerd who wants to test/hack it. (some of us are and just beg for the pain of figuring out what went wrong in the code/design) If you're paying for a consumer product, then you usually want it to go through a few revisions after being released to the wild to become what it aimed to be in the first place.

Is that my shoop of your face watching porn?? I <3 you squeegee. Enjoy your tech fun! I personally love new releases, but they're not for everyone. Have fun! And report back and tell us what is cool and what needs some improvement.

i've decided to wait. that's way more than i was expecting and coming way later. i'll live with the dev kit for a while longer.

Jesus. If all these VR glasses are going to cost as much as two consoles I seriously don't see a future in them.

I found http://cmoar.com/ which is basically an expensive Google Cardboard, but you can also get a screen add-on with an HDMI input for $300, so that seems like a pretty good deal

well, the first iphones were stupid expensive and were obsolete quickly. it's the cost of bleeding edge. they also have no direct competition for the next few months. expect prices to drop as competitors come along and supply increases.
they won't be that expensive forever, judging a technology by its debut price is short sighted. plus there's really only like 2 real games, it is still very much an infant product.

Yeah I get that, but I don't think the next one is going to cost much less than $400 and I've never spent anything even close to that on a gaming accessory.

when they hit 199 everyone will finally get them. i think vr will continue to be niche for a few years though and remain expensive for a good while.

Except that the rift in the US costs $599 but when you change shipping location to somewhere in the EU it jumps to €699. That is $763. And it does not include shipping. What the fuck.
