When I was young, less than 12, I had to go to the hospital. Surprisingly, I woke up with a tube going directly inside my penis. Just as much of a surprise, a nurse showed up one day and removed it painfully.
The day before the surgery that involved those dreadful things, i was drugged up and the same thing happened. I had to be transported with a wheelchair here and there inorder for doctors to analyze me. At the last check up i understood what was meant when the nurse said they prefer kids to be drugged up.
They told me to strip, the three nurses in the room, they strapped me to some kind of a wall, then they slowly inserted a tube inside my penis.
Now I'm not saying that the nurses are evil. I'm wondering if it's possible that everyday life seen as standard and normal, is actually something capable of traumatizing people, let alone kids.
But the implications are insane. Necessary surgeries and procedures might have to be revaluated in comparison to possibly traumatization.

Young people are pretty plastic. They don't have a baseline for how reality should look, so they have to build one as they go along. Lots of things adults consider normal may seem scary or disgusting to a child, but reacting to and dealing with new experiences is part of growing up. Assimilating new things into your view of the world and forming schemas to deal with them is what kids do. Maybe this fails sometimes? Maybe something just happens once and is insufficiently discussed or dealt with so the child doesn't know how to categorize it? The line between traumatizing/normalizing is maybe an interesting question.

You know, sometimes I think the world isn't as good as it should be, because we have not been protection children enough. Like we realize that people who had sex with them was bad, but maybe there is stuff out there equally as bad yet we can't see it.

My gut reaction is that being aware of other people's experiences (or at least a nurse explaining why this is necessary) would be beneficial. For instance, hearing adults talk about having a catheter inserted or removed while in the hospital and being made aware that it's a normal thing that's there to make sure you don't piss all over yourself while drugged would probably make this a normalizing thing. But being unaware of why someone was shoving a tube up your parts without any context or understanding and then not having anyone talk about it afterword would fall more on the traumatizing side. The child is left feeling like it's a private (maybe embarrassing, maybe shameful) experience that they shouldn't talk about.
I haven't had much developmental psych training. KL has probably had more, and I'd be interested to hear what he has to say.

Probably because the child was struggling. At the home it only takes two people and a head lamp to put one up a fat woman's vagina, and that is much harder to work with than a penis.

No I meant its very easy to mix the two holes up. I once helped a nurse who fed in like seven inches of tubing into the wrong hole and wouldn't believe me that there was a wrong hole until I googled it for her.
