it's not a real word though. vsauce (a youtuber) made it up to use an an example of a word that only exists in one body of text. it's a hapax legomenon (which actually IS a real term http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hapax%20legomenon) which is a word that has only been recorded once. because of his video the word spread as a meme, but it's not a word that is in common use nor should anyone, anywhere (except vsauce the dude that made it up) be expected to know the word or it's meaning. part of the reason everyone calls your shit word salad is because we google the terms you use and shit like "know your meme" and "9gag" come back as the top result and actual dictionaries of the english language are nowhere to be seen. that's the difference between writing nonsense and writing intelligibly!

Did you miss the point of the video? The word is a rarely used word, not a made up word.
The video was about how things fall out of use or practice.
At one point in time it might have been a common word, plus why was there at least 1 Google result when Vsauce mentioned it.

did vsauce not plant the word? oh, ok. that's fine, it's still not even commonly used enough to be in anything but mentioned in urban dictionaries mentioning vsauce. i'm not seeing it anywhere listed as a dictionary term. people can't really be faulted for not knowing literally every word in the world especially if they are so uncommon that they are only written once anywhere and not used ever by anyone. sophie is acting like it's as common as table salt.

First of all, he didn't make it up, it was made up by someone else. Second of all, a hapax legomenon is a word that only appears once in a piece of literature, not a word that is only recorded once ever. The example Michael uses is "baboon" in Moby Dick, because the word "baboon" only appears once in Moby Dick. Most books actually have lots of hapax legomenons.
