How come we literally have no way of controlling our television sets with out phones yet?
Sure, there are such inventions like Chromecast, but that still requires one to pick up a remote and turn on the TV manually as well as change HDMI imputs.
When will the world of televisions be able to be controlled from a single Apple or Android snartphone?

No, op says that there is literally no way to control a TV with a phone, which to me implies they have actually looked in to it at all in any way and somehow not found the dozens of methods to control a TV with a smartphone.

Chromecast will turn on your TV for you, if you have a capable set. Needs a fancy HDMI port.

My phone has an IR blaster, and came with a built-in TV remote app, and it was sweet! It was motion controlled, so when you picked up your phone it would automatically turn the screen on to the remote. But then the fuckers released an update that replaced the remote with an advertisement for a shitty non-functional replacement app.
