2/3 of $14 = roughly $9.38 per hour
Using a wage calculator, we see that a single person with no dependents in Tennessee can expect to take home about 87.65% of their wage at this payscale. $9.38 * .8765 = $8.22/hr.
$8.22/hr * 8 hrs/day = $65.77/day.
If it's an hour away, we'll estimate that's 40 miles each way (some freeway, some city driving).
IRS standard mileage rate is 57.5 cents per mile for business purposes (taking into account gas, oil, other maintenance, insurance, and depreciation). With bert's drinking history we consider this a conservative estimate, he has to have a few DUIs kicking up the insurance rates.

Of course, it's just a useful number to estimate the true cost of a long commute. It makes no sense at all to drive two hours a day for a menial job. Similar to how a lot of working married couples would do just as well to have one spouse stay home to raise the kids instead of paying for daycare.
