Topic: Anyone disappointed in fallout 4?

Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E started this discussion 10 years ago #48,552

The game just wasn't what I loved about fallout. Like if i had the option to forget everything about fallout 3, I would pick that option and play fallout 3 again instead of fallout 4.

Anonymous B joined in and replied with this 10 years ago, 2 minutes later[^] [v] #633,777

Nope. The game is pretty good. I'm disappointed the conversation system got dumbed down and overall there's less quests than before, but it's still an excellent game and I enjoyed it. Am still enjoying it, and I started playing the day it got released.

It's all about managing your expectations. Were you one of those that got HYPED THE FUCK UP?

Anonymous C joined in and replied with this 10 years ago, 3 minutes later, 5 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #633,779

Yeah. It was over hyped to fuck. Very mediocre. Only retards who blindly follow franchises will like it because they've been told to like it.

The retards are the ones who over hyped it, and if you gave in to the hype then yeah, it sucks. But the same can be said for any game that gets hyped the fuck up. Always a disappointment.

I was never hyped. I picked it up weeks after release and saw it was just a reskined fo3.

I think it's not right to blame the player for their experience. You could expect too much from a game and over hype it, but in the end it's the experience with the game that matters and your expectations of it is a small part.

RWBY Rhubarb? !!iNo3FkiZx joined in and replied with this 10 years ago, 1 minute later, 15 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #633,785

Not at all. I'm still playing it now, in fact. And I don't currently see an end in sight.

I like how they learned from other RPGs. A storyline where you're free to choose who you support, and meaningful companions instead of the much less interesting followers of FO3 and Skyrim. I definitely felt they'd taken the base Fallout formula and improved on it.

Though I did have to take some rather drastic measures to make run #2 a challenge. But it's still damn fun.

The gameplay is not really similar to fo3 at all. I think I would be happier with the game than I already am if it actually was a reskinned fo3. And the game has been out for 5 weeks now. How many weeks is "weeks"?

@633,784 (Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E)
Expectations play a HUGE role in how you experience something. This applies to everything, not just video games. If you go in expecting it to be shit, it is almost guaranteed that you will have a bad experience. If you go in expecting it to be AMAZING then you will be underwhelmed.

In regards to this game, I think it's a fine game. I think the only point one can truly complain about is the lower amount of quests (partially because of the lack of optional factions). Also the radio could do with more songs but I'm not sure how that compares to previous games.

@633,785 (RWBY Rhubarb? !!iNo3FkiZx)
Minor plot spoilers: This isn't specific to FO4 but I don't like how the story line is your spouse getting murdered and your baby stolen. Now better spend all of my free time building up shitty settlements and farming moisture!

Also, I am on survival difficulty on my second playthrough. Melee. It is too fucking easy, especially with power armor. And I have plenty of fusion cores and tons of money to buy plenty more, so I can use that whenever I want. Deathclaws die in two hits, and almost everything else dies in one hit. The game could do with some balancing in that regard, or an even more difficult gameplay mode.

4 choices. You can team up with the Railroad, Minutemen, Brotherhood or Institute. Plus you can have the Minutemen support any of the other three.

It was a good lesson learned from New Vegas. In 3, you were forced to support the Brotherhood until a last minute betrayal in Broken Steel. Here, you've got a pretty diverse set of choices.

I can see how the settlement management stuff could annoy people. Granted, it's possible to completely ignore it (mostly).

Yeah, difficulty is an issue, even on survival. My first character just steamrolls most enemies. I've had to roll with a 1 endurance character, not use power armour, and install a mod to make enemies deal more damage to make run 2 legitimately challenging for me. Though, now that I have, it's way more fun.

The settlement management stuff didn't annoy me. I think it's a great feature. My point is that the main story has a sense of urgency. If you are immersed in the story you will feel the need to resolve it, which means you are rushing through the game and missing out on everything that makes it amazing.

What is the mod? I was thinking I should just downgrading my power armor. I love waltzing around in it, and now it kind of feels like it fits with my character to do so. Especially since I invested into getting the jetpack which is very cool together with melee. Raider shooting me from the roof? No problem, let me just get up there and beat the shit out of them.
y
But then again, making my character weaker than it can be to make the game more challenging does feel wrong in a way.

There's quite a few sidequests where you have to pick a side. There's not a whole lot of consequences to doing so other than determining which set of characters survive, and they give slightly different rewards. Have you done covenant? But when has a sidequest ever have any kind of significant impact, eh?

The problem is, I don't feel I can quite comment because I haven't really gotten to fully exploring the map. Often I'm too caught up in other tasks to see all of the sidequest stuff on offer.

But the sidequests I've seen so far have been good. Standard Fallout stuff, IMO.

Oh, I get you. Yeah I never get that feeling because I'm always mildly aware that there's no real time constraint in play. Though I did come up with the roleplay motivation of the character being cautious and wanting to really gather resources before going after their son.

Yeah. Of course I'm aware of this as well, but it hinders my really getting into the story. Did you know the first Fallout did have a time limit? It was really restrictive initially as well.

This time I will be a war hero traumatized by the war and finally pushed off the edge by the apocalypse and the event's inside the vault.

It however feels like there won't be much prop to roleplay with.

And yeah, I may just have to side with those evil psychologists this time to spare her. Even though their research methods are awful.

Yeah they got rid of the time limit in a patch. Well, they bumped it up by an insane amount.

I wonder if you can join those guys, have the town ally with you and then go back and murder every one of the scientists. It wouldn't be part of the actual quest, so maybe the settlement won't agro you for it.

Ohh, I didn't know the game did that. I'll have to look for that one. Weird to call it rubberbanding though. I've only heard that being used in MMOs where you'd move back, the server disagrees due to lag and then snaps you back.

Also, I killed all of the atom cats. The mods they sell suck. After stealing all of their power armor including frames. It was quite tricky to get them all to leave their power armor without any of them agroing me, but it is apparently totally possible. If you sneak up to someone and pickpocket their power core they will be ejected from the suit and will not turn hostile against you if they didn't catch you. I wound up just shooting them all with mind cloud syringes and then stealing their cores lol.

i've had no luck pick pocketing cores. i get 13% and get caught. but i'm kinda saving power armor for a more power armor centric build. i still steal cores and collect suits and parts, but only for fun and in case i hit a wall and just need it. i'm on the glowing coast right now and i'll still probably just wear a full radiation suit. i've heard that companions don't drain cores when they wear armor, so i'm probably at some point going to (i mean i guess if i need the extra help) turn a companion into a real tank and just order them to attack shit instead of doing it myself, but i kinda want to do that with a high chr/int build and see if i can just have a companion do all the work and let me just boss them around. so far i don't see a reason why that shouldn't work, especially if i'm giving my companion all the best kit.

Using the mind cloud syringes helps a lot. Also being sneaky in power armor does not really work, if you are already wearing a set. You could also get the perks to improve pickpocket chances.

Companions indeed don't drain cores, but their power armor does get damaged. And since they charge head-first into everything, it gets damaged quick. I used to dress cait up in power armor, but gave up on that when i had to fucking keep repairing it. Which means:

1. Tell cait to get out of her power armor
2. Get out of my own power armor
3. Get in cait's power armor set
4. Move it to the power armor repair bench thing
5. Repair it
6. Tell cait to get back in

Annoying.
