are any of the characters not homosexual
I mean it's OK if they are all gay
but then I want them honest about it
"yes we are the gay trek now"
OK I can deal with that

@OP
It looks a lot more like Star Trek than the last two efforts did. At least they're not on or near Earth this time.

None of the characters in these new movies are gay.
Only the actor portraying Spock is gay.

And I thought Nemesis killed the franchise... Let's do it one better than Enterprise by dragging the corpse out, beheading it, burning everything, burying it at a crossroads, and then driving a giant fucking spike through the coffin. If anyone has bothered to watch Star Trek: Renegade it should be called Star Trek: Holy fuck just stop giving the studio money to watch us rape that dead horse we raped last year.
Full disclosure: I'm a full blown Trekkie, and I would normally be gushing about a new Trek film... except I'm not. I only grudgingly watched the reboots, but eventually I saw an interesting story brewing and was interested where they might go with that. That probably stops with this.
> Why does this trailer NOT look like Star Trek at all.
BECAUSE THE BEASTIE BOYS ARE PLAYING ON THE BRIDGE AND PEOPLE ARE DOING MOTORCYCLE JUMPS! It looks like a shit action/CGI fest raping the ghost of science fiction to draw out marketing dollars!

That song will just be for the trailer, dumbass.

Are you sure? Have you seen the final cut? Even if it doesn't make an appearance in the actual movie, the song doesn't even belong in the fucking trailer - let alone motorcycle jumps. And I thought the space-mobile-rover into shuttle jump in Nemesis was bad... This is a shitty way to play up a Star Trek movie. Yay! Sci-Fi explodifying motorcycle jumps! What?

cookie cutter action flick with sci-fi sprinkles. served with a glass of ice-cold romance

Renegades is a non-canon fan production, numbnuts.

Yeah pretty much. Cathy asked why this doesn't look like Star Trek, and it's because they are doing motorcycle jumps to The Beastie Boys in the trailer. That's why this doesn't look at all like Star Trek. If they have some master plan to deliver a thoughtful sci-fi story, then they are masters of hiding their real intentions. It looks like a shit, untested director getting shit scripts and making shit movies that hope to hang by the edges of their fingers off some trend that they know shit about and think they can revitalize with action scenes and crap writing.

It still came out directed by and starring Trek cast and using the Star Trek name. Now that Gene is dead, who decides what is canon? Paramount? Fans? Renegades still may be better than this upcoming film.
Anonymous D replied with this 10 years ago, 5 minutes later, 2 hours after the original post[^][v]#632,809

Paramount owns the movie rights, whilst CBS owns the television rights. Renegades was produced by neither company, and is therefore non-canon. Thanks.

I'm just glad they haven't done this to something that I'm really invested in. There was that rubbish Dragon Ball movie, but that was quietly forgotten, thankfully.
I have sympathy for the Star Trek fans in your position. And potentially the Star Wars fans, if that movie sucks. Hopefully the Star Wars EU being discontinued wasn't a waste.
