Topic: 100 photos of the corner of my friends house

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #48,310

Actually it was only 90, and 7 were rejected. About 3 hours of processing time and out spits this 3D model. Fuck I love technology.

He wants to build a deck, and this is a really cool way to start

He's currently digging out a lot of dirt from under his house, and doing the piles. There is plans for a large front deck, but the smaller back deck is our start.

I like how the tree wraps around the house, I can actually find the photo that makes it do that. Maybe I'll delete it and run the program again

This is a scan of the STL file I printed onto iso sketch paper and drew the deck concept.

Well, the rotation sucks.

I must have got a lot of brick photos for this detail

lots of shadow holes around them too

That is a pretty sweet 3D-looking brick pile. What are shadow holes? Does the program you use create holes in dark areas?

No photo information, so it doesn't guess. Actual shadows kill it because it can't process them, and unseen areas are holes.

Cool beans. What does it do with the back/inside of the building?

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 10 years ago, 7 minutes later, 47 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #631,271

I started drawing the deck in solidworks, but it's really still only good for concept. I messed up the files a bit and it's not to scale, this deck is 60 meters long joined to a giant house!

Not bad for an afternoon of taking photos for 20 minutes, waiting for a couple of hours to process, and playing with some shapes. His gf is way more keen on the idea of building a wooden back deck now too.

If this whole thing works out, his front deck with sea views will be fucking large, built from I beams, concrete slab, and awesomeness.

I think it's zero thickness. The inside looks like the outside, I'll do some screens where I spin it.

Externally hosted imageHere is one of the photos of the bricks that I took. This is something like a 5 meg photo, I dunno what his mega pixels were on his camera, probably 12 or so. The whole project was 1.3 gigapixels, apparently.

I've taken some pictures of other shit, but nothing else has really worked out so good. My other bud has a DJI Phantom drone though, and I'm keen to do some large aerial shit too. Just because. Thanks

OP took photos of a house and loaded them into a computer program, which turned the pictures into 3D models.
