Won't it automatically link up to Steam? I thought that PC games did that, these days.

I heard they have two versions of the PC game. One that links up with Steam if you buy it on Steam and a regular retail version.

You could just add the key manually even if it doesn't link up or whatever.

It doesn't matter if you get the game on Steam or not, but humble bundle usually sells Steam keys. As long as you get GTA5 for PC you will be able to play with anyone else who has the game for PC.

And there wasn't even any GFWLive DRM garbage involved with GTA5.

I assume that is because of the Rockstar Social Club, right?

Yes, the game has its own friends list, clans and joining etc. Just add the game as a non-steam game to steam if you happen to buy it that way, so you can still chat with people. Anyway, I think I saw the option to convert your non-steam license to steam on the rockstar site somewhere.

I got it and I ran the setup.
Although now it's telling me there's an error (Code 201).
So is the game installed? I see it under add/remove programs and the folder is there.
I just cannot update.
