Topic: Why are all of the good Indiana Jones movies the ones featuring biblical items?

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #48,289

Raiders of the Lost Ark, great.
Temple of Doom, forgettable aside from a few scenes.
The Last Crusade, excellent.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, horseshit.

If they made a fifth film then it should return to chasing after a biblical artifact, but what exactly should that be?

I was thinking maybe the Spear of Destiny since it has legends about that item, but Lucas said at one time he wanted Noah's Ark.

How the fuck do you add supernatural elements to a story about finding a wooden boat?

If Jesus lived then his rants end up lost to history.
Saving Jesus makes as much sense, as saving Jesus foreskin.

Because biblical artifacts have thousands of years of real-world mythology surrounding them, so it's more intriguing to people. If someone tried to create as much mythology around some made-up artifact in the film universe, viewers would get annoyed by them basically cramming the idea of some "magical" trinket down our throats for 2 hours.

It's supposed to be one of the prophecies Jesus spoke of so of course the little detail made it in the book.

There are two different versions of Judas' death in the New Testament. In Matthew 27:5, Judas threw the 30 pieces of silver at the feet of the Priests and hung himself out of remorse. The Priests used the money to buy a Potters Field, which could be employed as a burial site for outcasts, lepers, homeless etc.

In Acts 1:18, Judas himself uses the money to buy some land, and apparently falls from a high point while taking a walk around his new property. Evidently, he splattered when he hit the ground, leading to the place becoming known as "The Field of Blood".
