I'd get irritated if someone was using 56kbps mp3s too, but down to about 112kbps, quality loss is fairly negligible. Plus, people don't go around downloading mp3s, applying filters to them, recompressing them, and then posting them online for other people to do the same with. By contrast, generational jpeg compression artifacting runs rampant on the internet.
