He was diagnosed maybe 3 months ago. There's only 4 stages and that shit is all though his body. He's trying to enjoy his summer and hopes he gets to see another one, and is going to spend $150k on treatment if he even lasts that long and hopefully get on a trial drug.
It's a hell of a thing to face your mortality at 40 with 2 kids. He had a small lump on his back, they said it was probably nothing and it turned out to be the worst thing ever. He's had it cut out, but that's all so far. It's a pretty good chance of getting on to a clinical trial, because he has advanced shit and hasn't done any other treatment and is some kind of 20th% of the population cancer patient. So that's something... He might get some trial drug that gives him another year or two.
I've had beers with him a couple of times before, he's in the wider circle and we've known each other for years. I think he's going to start coming along more regularly though. Because it's good to just talk shit about cars and motorbikes and sports and women over a couple of beers instead of thinking about time ticking away and dying.
