If someone describes themselves as a psychologist, what might they do?
Researchers are excluded because that's an option for anything. Psychiatrists are excluded because that is something different.

Psychologist in USA cannot prescribe drugs.
Reviewed and see they can in New Mexico Louisiana and on Indian reservations.

If you are excluding research and those in academia, then probably the most visible profession would be therapy. (which is a pretty wide field e.g. marriage-family counselling, anger management, addiction counselling, working with the mentally ill, convicted criminals, system kids, or just plain old personal therapy as some examples) Although psychology merges with a lot of other areas and you may find someone with a psychology degree doing statistics and demographics, acting as a business consultant advising large companies about how to organize production processes or workplaces, advising advertising agencies, working with police, city planners, schools and kids in special education, ... It's really a long list.
