My parents are splitting the cost with me, and they said we can go get it tomorrow. but, should I get one? I currently have a Droid (original), and it is slow, crashes abnormally large amounts, and the battery lasts about half a femtosecond.

You have a couple of choices NOW . Buy one yet on which Carrier plan?
AT&T sucks and it will be as much as 1.5 years or more b4 they can maybe clean up their act for just a short while.
Verizon Rocks - HOWEVER the current iPhone from either, does not have the next Gen 700 MHz capability. Which means that IF YOU decide to buy today on either carrier? Your iPhone is out of date in less then one year with Verizon and will suck for 2 years with AT&T Unless you live in a tiny small hamlet.
I consult for both companies and am Prejudiced against AT&T however must point out that in some instances AT& T is for a few a good choice.

Yes with your input YES....Just be aware that IF you have good current connectivity with Verizon? Work play and all rooms inside our home work or school currently on Verizon on some other device that is on "V" the iPhone of current vintage is a very good choice.
IF however you tell me that you have issues with one of those I mentioned? Lets discuss - I am out of here at 8PM PST but can reply 2morrow. You do not have to tell me where you are, but a general location would help me help you. If you do not wish to share then just tell me how large the city is you live in and do they have freeways that go N to S and have transitions E to W in general terms only. Where do you use your current phone and do you even care if what you buy today needs to be replaced in 12 months?
Your experience with Android re battery life is very odd and crashes? What brand when did you buy? Very odd that this is your experience...Do your friends have the same issue with the same model?

I have excellent connectivity with Verizon. I get excellent coverage all throughout my town, I even get 3G in the underground Cafeteria of my school. I very rarely lose 3G, and if I do it's only for a minute or so. I live in a smallish town in Tennessee and I don't know about the freeway thing but we have them.
And I don't care if it needs to be replaced in 12 months. I almost never keep a phone longer than a year because I get bored with the same thing for too long.
On Android: I bought the original Droid in February/March 2010. the problems didn't start until around February of 2011. The battery has NEVER lasted more than a day with standard use. it's been getting worse, though :/
My friend has gone through I think 3+ Droids of the same model because his fail for no real reason (not turn on anymore, screen dies, etc)

Buy the iPhone and you will be very pleased with it. In addition I end up with you putting $$$ in my pocket as a result.
Verizon is far more then just a client in my business. The made it directly possible for me to buy a Home on the beach, nice cars and just about any/every/thing one could desire in material possessions. One would have to look up Qualcomm to understand why.
Honest to goodness a very good company (Both) and both dependent on both. Damn if I can figure out why Air Touch dropped such a great moniker to be Verizon!!! 3G by the way is Qualcomm patents and yours truly has a huge stake in that.
That aside I consult for T Mobil which is a ok company currently and is about to be stolen by AT& T unless the Feds stop such.
Sprint is a client and uses Qualcomm end to end as well, alas they have issues. AT&T is just fucked up. Its really SBC with a name change to get around the horrid terrible customer service reputation THEY ONCE HAD and now still do in even bigger ways.
They are a major client I wish would get the hell out of my life for good.
On that note my GF's just arrived for a nite of dancing in three venues and I am sure in future you will see the photos because everyone here always ends up viewing them - Usually with asshole DM's assistance.
G'd nite and if its Knoxville well that is another matter for some other time. Nashville rocks lol and actually I have only been to Nashville for the once in and long now out of music biz thank God.

My only quarrel is with the browser: I use a third-party browser on my Droid which displays tabs at the top similar to a full size browser. That makes it easy to switch tabs in class under the desk when time is of the essence. With mobile Safari, you have that clunky tab-switching interface to quarrel with. What should I do about that?

Same thing as you've done on your android device; get a third-party web browser that implements tabs in a way you like.
There's tons of them to choose from!
I'd recommend one, but I've stuck with mobile safari so far.
The few that i have tried weren't too memorable.

Extravagance comes with hard work, and age. However no where near as extravagant now as in the past because much to most of what I now make goes to Harvard Medical to put my daughter through Med School - Full tuition upfront for 5 years. A House to live in and a new car and all unexpected, a long story ...nor does she have a clue that I exist.
I do not give advice on browsers for mobiles - Except to say, find a group of people sitting down somewhere - a mall theater restaurant would be ideal or some other similar open area place loaded with people and phones. You have a priority that works for you, which may not be someone else's. You of course are looking for a few individuals who can stand up and show you why they like their browsers tabs. Use to be as you know only two or three choices of browsers, but now with third party apps, its one hell of a new world.
Firefox just pointed out a major flaw with applications and browsers re speed after an app is loaded. Apps also eat up battery power. The results are not trivial at all. Many cut 50% or more into speed, which may equate to battery life.
Currently I am playing with Opera on my PC for only MC and TC. The Tabs are unique and rock and will end up on all other browsers one day.
They slide on over or on top or anywhere you want to place them. Glide would be a better word for the smooooth action.
However I am not going to recommend Opera for PC or any other use at this moment. And from now on as I do trials on this browser I will NEVER EVER use the Turbo mode. Copy n Paste to clipboard also sucks. @previous (brie !OudrPWaUDQ)
Yea the tons ...just try it and compare life of a fully charged battery before calling IT the browser of choice.

Going with the browser thing: I use Chrome. I was a religious Firefox user, but it got too slow for my tastes, I haven't used firefox 4 since beta testing. Is it any better now?
As for Opera: I hate it with a passion. It refuses to load infinite scrolling on certain websites which have it by default, and oddly refuses to put rounded edges on boxes On Tumbler (squares instead of rounded).

I See you have made up your mind to buy it ...and you know you will want a new one ...one year from now for the VASTLY Improved Verizon and it really will be far better when used indoors & even greater range with less battery draw down. JUST REMEMBER that when you install new apps, to keep your eye on how well the total package performs for total battery life AFTER any install.
Miss Sticky I have been using MC as well as TC & long time user of 4Chan - Under a geographically different IP and name/handle and only one sentence replies (or 3) almost since the inception of each. I first came OUT of Closet on TC when DM was truly Permabanned - On MC I held back waiting for r04r and Sim to wise UP which for some odd reason took much too long lol. Can explain if asked.
I know Moot in R/T and a Miss Sherrod for multiple reasons & for multiple meetings (ED) now "other" lol albeit many are not LOL re conversion. I hold back very little and my R/L is ultra/over/exposed/ on WWW as you will discover -
Chrome is just super re speed and for mobile speed means minimum draw down on batter power - again I do NOT recommend browsers for mobile and by now, you have a hint as to why - If I did, someone would be unhappy because it all depends on applications installed along with browser. (I could use a complex Polynomials with Taylor's theorem) Fact is even Verizon tears hair out of Haid trying to evaluate a model of any phone with one app at a tyme. For manufactures and SP's this willy nilly downloading of apps drives them crazy re maintaining a good reputation.
Firefox 4.0 released is much better then the beta release - NOW with a hard nosed attitude re Applications that S L O W it to a crawl and the new policy of testing before approval - They have put Chrome to the Fire and IE is again left in the dust. Opera 11.1 is better and frankly I gave up on it two years ago until someone on TC gave intelligent reasons why people should give it a try. I have and I will soon say good by Opera, and of course I will return to it for features that can be stuffed down Firefox and Chromes hind end to be "incorporable" COMPETITION ROCKS.

Of course re my work I have free NO billing on you name it on all SP's and a slew of new phones that will never be turned on. Now u sitting down for this? I never EVER anymore go out with one cell phone from anyone. Yes tymes like yesterday when gal I was going Rock Climbing with could not find me at trail head cause of multiple places to start and poor early on communication on both are parts. Worked out ok/
Yes last Sat for my mountain climb for Rock Climbing in HOT MEAN Dessert, I did carry a Globalstar Satellite cell phone, because real other live may have been at risk, and I had a party to return too later in evening lol.
But honest I stopped that nasty habit of going out with cell phones as companions. When I am surfing my Ocean Blue as this AM and at same tyme billing a client, I do use an alarm system to alert people on the beach, so they can wave me down. (pun?) Alarm is a blast of pleasing Techno music from my house, and this AM it worked and only 5 mins b4 I was done for AM. Sum say music is louder then necessary.
