Topic: I'm going to try roasting my potatoes in duck fat with dinner tonight

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #47,463

I haven't tried it at home before, but I did see some duck fat for the first time at the supermarket. I guess I've never really looked for it before. If they turn out anywhere near what I've tasted in restaurants I'll be happy! In fact I think all the veges will be getting a smothering just to see how they turn out.

Has anyone or does anyone regularly cook with it?

Syntax joined in and replied with this 11 years ago, 5 minutes later[^] [v] #622,552

Yes but only when I cook a duck and save the fat for later use. So never regular.
Potatoes wood be terrific in duck fat. Bacon fat of course is always an option

Do you deliberately misspell words in your profession, too?

Syntax replied with this 11 years ago, 24 minutes later, 33 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #622,589

@previous (C)
Actually YES
Wot I submit in most cases goes to my editor and I use the same quick stuff you see here.
When I have to do a quick email reply and I no text speek is a-ok I make sure to use it. After all clients all understand idk
I think they shit bricks when I type idk because they are paying me by the hour and when they get the idk they no its going to really cost them for me to figure it out

Is duck fat actually healthy for you?

All in all, duck fat is a good fat," says Alejandro G. Marangoni, a professor in the department of food science at the University of Guelph. Good fat includes monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and bad fats include saturated. "Duck fat is pretty high in monounsaturated fat, and thus not too high in saturates," he says. "I actually have a jar of it in my fridge." So consider ordering that duck confit next time you go out for a fancy dinner. As you can see from this breakdown of one tablespoon (15 mL), duck fat ranks between butter and olive oil.

Remember I really am Dyslexic and sure i no two vs to

2 however works in 95% or more cases.

You claim to be dyslexic. You always make outlandish, and untrue, statements. Ergo, it is not out of the question that you lie about a "condition" that causes you to deliberately misspell words, then copy walls of text in an attempt to justify said behavior.

Actually Dyslexia has been a curse as well as a blessing.
Discovered it back at UCLA during Engineering drawing course. Now its called CAD
I cannot look at a 2D drawing with the hidden lines that represent the 3rd dimension and see the drawing properly

I learned early on to quickly make cardboard models which later in r/l work saved my ass as an Engineering Manager - To sign off drawings that then make parts costing $100,000+ which chance of fuck up - Models down on the cheep to prove the drawing accounted for all - Now so much more easy with CAD

Still amazes me that its rare I run into problems with Syntax when using PERL -

> You always make outlandish, and untrue, statements

Such as?

Actually they have only just kicked off. Half an hour or so and things should be grate.

The kumara mushed up and exploded a little bit but I'm sure it will be fine. With roast shallots, baby carrots, and I stuffed baby capsicums with crumbled hash browns! I haven't tried this before so we'll see. The pork has been slow cooking for 4 to 5 hours, and I hope I can get the crackle to actually work and land on the plate at the right time, or I'll probably just eat it later on its own.

Everything smells awesome though!

Yikes - Just wonders if the internal moisture gets out so as to keep the texture to your expectations

You sir are preparing one hell of a nice dinner. My Taco Tuesday was great but in no way in comparison to wot you are doing

They are over stuffed, and the filling is spewing out. I'm okay with that though, and I don't expect crispy centers anyway.

My regret is the packet gravy. And I let it get a little cold for the sake of under done crackling, which was stupid but far from ruined it. I'm totally going to put duck fat on everything until this tub is empty too

> My regret is the packet gravy

UnfuckinBelievable

Anyway next time and y not real soon take some of that leftover duck fat and heat and whisk in flour. Cook it a bit for some color - the more color the more better but even a few minutes and you have total real great Gravy. One can also add a bit of red wine and or milk to that mix.
