Do you remember teletext? I assume it is dead now.
My favourite page was 341 and 606. Presumably the USAmerica had it too, but surely not on every channel.

i know a lot of people who use it for sport results still, but via a teletext app. I don't understand why they won't use Google Now or something.

I used it for weathersperging as a kid.
Wasn't really necessary with the advent of the internet in my house early in the '00s.

I had an obsession with weather which later developed into full-blown meteorological banality into my late childhood, proceeding to die in my late teens.

I'd look at maps of temperatures and pressure and tables of wind speed and rain fall for, if not quite hours, longer than was natural. Didn't really share my obsession overtly though; even back then I was probably subconsciously embarassed by it.

That reminds me of teletype. Every newscast used to open with the sound of the teletype machine, which with its fast insistent rhythm let you know that breaking important news is coming right in, fresh off the wire, whatever the fuck the wire is.
