during the revolutionary war the english were driven out of boston mostly because washington had hundreds of barrels with rocks in them. if the english assaulted their cannons the barrels would be rolled down the hill crushing assaulting brits.

they were literally unassaultable because washington insisted on the barrels and obsessed over them till it happened. then the english fled the cannons. basically they took one look at the barrels and noped back to the sea.
