Can the case be made that people who commit truly heinous acts deserve to be killed? I hear often that 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind', but are there ever any instances when it is the best option?

Yes, I think there are some people who deserve to die, such as extreme serial killers (maybe not lesser ones), and perpetrators of war crimes, such as the Doctors at Nazi concentration camps who experimented on the prisoners.

What about say, violent repeat rapists? The ones who torture the people before doing it..the sadistic people who try to kill people for fun..who try to push them over the edge..who take advantage of the fact the person is injured or alone..?

I think we shouldn't have the authority to take life away because of their actions. Serving a life time in prison would be good enough of a punishment for me.

Well, it would be a punishment but at huge cost to the taxpayer.
I always liked the "dropping serial killers on an island away from society" idea. It's wrong to take a life, but if they can't behave in society they should be excluded from it.

You know. Now that I think about it...there are some terrible people out there who would do harm to others in society again if they were to get out. There should be exceptional death penalties where there would have to be a very good reason with strong evidence for death as a good weigh for their actions.

The problem is not her laughable lack of knowledge, but that she thinks a 15 year old, whose knowledge is inherently limited (if only due to time needed to gain knowledge) can have a valid opinion on such matters, and that she need not listen to people with informed opinion on the subject.
