I played through it. My impressions so far:
It feels like a solid but fairly basic hack and slash game. You get a choice of four characters (team RWBY) who all have their own fighting styles and special abilities. The gameplay is mostly moving through maps fighting hordes of monsters (Grimm), and occasionally having to defend an objective. As you play, you get exerience to level up your abilties. Levelling is straightforward, but is somewhat strategic too since some abilites and upgrades require you to do certain challenges first.
It's pitched as a co-operative multiplayer game (though you can play alone) and the amount of Grimm you fight scales to the number of players in the game. It's good multiplayer, too. You can't really get screwed over by your teammates in any way. No friendly fire, and experience seems to be shared. Though if the host player leaves, then level restarts. Which is rather annoying.
Being an early access game it is a bit rough around the edges, but not majorly so. The worst thing is that running animations often get a bit choppy. And only a quater of the planned number of levels are in so far. Otherwise, it's a serviceable game.
IMO you should probably only buy it now if you're a fan of RWBY, since if you don't have an appreciation for the show then it'll probably just feel fairly basic. Though you may want to consider it once it's more developed, if you like hack and slash games.

End of last episode, we saw Pyrrha boarding an elevator with an evil grin on her face.
A popular theory is that this was Neo in diguise (probably using her illusion semblance), supported by how that sort of smug, evil smile is a trademark of Neo's.
The alternative theory is that Pyrrha has been evil all along. I find this the more unlikely possibility, since we've seen Cinder actively plotting against Pyrrha, and Pyrrha seems to have demonstrated genuinely nice behaviour beforehand.

Do you think what the crowd and cameras saw was Neo's illusion and what Yang saw actually happened, or do you think that what Yang saw was the illusion tricking her into striking at Mercury's leg while he was still on the ground and the crowd and cameras captured the real event?

The consensus seems to be that Yang was the one seeing an illusion. I guess since a localised illusion would be easier than a massive one.

And I didn't really notice Cinder's leg shots, actually. But if we're talking legs, well... There's somebody else whose leg shots were far more shocking, wouldn't you say?
But anyway, I still liked the episode a lot. Had a really good fight scene. Four of the six villains got some really great character development, and we got some more insight into Cinder (but still not the full story).

Yeah, I thought the episode was good. It's finally moving along the story so that Cinder can become more of a real character with goals instead of a random mysterious villain. Emerald and Mercury get some development and back story, and we find how Qrow knows who is responsible for stealing the autumn maiden's power.

Anyway, I went back through the episode to take some screen caps to illustrate what I mean. Now that I think back, they've pretty much been doing the behind-the-leg cam thing for her since episode one. Maybe it's a director thing to make her seem more mysterious? I don't know, but when you're waiting for a face shot and the camera just keeps portraying her as a pair of legs walking around it's maddening.

@previous (S) > As for the bug... I don't know. Could just be that's what they think portal effects should look like? Raven doesn't seem to have any connection with that Sauron-looking sigil on Cinder's hand.
Raven was dressed up to resemble a Grimm, and the bug coming out of Cinder's hand portal seemed to be a Grimm. So one theory is that those portals lead to some sort of "Grimm dimension" that both Raven and Cinder are making use of.
But yeah, I admit it's nothing concrete right now. Though, if it isn't just them reusing assets, it's a hint. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

You got it. The wall of corn was formed back when the Romans were around. It was a very improvised defence and has obviously since rotted away, but it was enough to unify the Cornish people.
Also, Thunor seems to have some relation to Thor. Dunno which was the original, but I find it sort of odd that gods were spreading that well back in those times.
Also- I am just throwing this out there- Old English themed RWBY team. Though their name would need to mean a colour, as per the RWBY naming rules.
> You got it. The wall of corn was formed back when the Romans were around. It was a very improvised defence and has obviously since rotted away, but it was enough to unify the Cornish people.
Hadrian's wall and the Antonine wall were pretty far north. Really, no one actually managed to conquer Scotland until Cromwell. The Romans, they just built a giant fucking wall. Then they built another one. The Anglo-Saxons, that didn't work out either. It's nice the Cornish peeps seemed to be interested in fending off the invading Germanic tribes. My Scottish ancestors seemed to feel the same.
> Also, Thunor seems to have some relation to Thor. Dunno which was the original, but I find it sort of odd that gods were spreading that well back in those times.
Yeah, actually, the early Anglo-Saxons basically had the Norse pantheon. Thor and Thunor were pretty much the same deal. Wotan in place of Odin, Thunor for Thor, Tue as a stand-in for Tyr. It was just Germanic tribes moving around and language and culture shifting. You can see it in the English days of the week. Anyway, I've been listening to way too much Anglo-Saxon history lately...
> Also- I am just throwing this out there- Old English themed RWBY team. Though their name would need to mean a colour, as per the RWBY naming rules.
Huh, this might be fun! I have been listening to Beowolf (no real pun intended there) in Old English and their alphabet had some really different letters adopted from the Franks and Old Latin. (And sometimes just made up) I don't know how those letters are going to fit into team names with Old English or Celtic pronunciations.
Also Emerald is nearly my favourite ones tbh. That last episode really added to her character, showed us why she has that personal affection for Cinder and where she came from.
I don't think this'll fuck over the animation, or anything. A talented animator is a bad thing to lose, but they've obviously got others working there.
Although, worryingly, his wife voices Emerald. I hope the split was amicable enough, or she might be gone too. :'(

I can guarantee that won't happen. From what we've seen, Emerald outright adores Cinder.
The last episode really underlined it. Cinder saved Emerald from a life on the streets, where she was struggling to eat. Emerald also gets jealous when Merc is recruited, and Cinder slapping her for it does nothing to stop Emerald from being overjoyed upon seeing her leader at a later point. If anything, I'd say that Emerald is Cinder's most loyal minion, possibly aside from Mercury.
Also, Emerald seems to be as immoral as most of the other villains, having a jolly good chuckle about murdering Tukson in her first appearence as well as showing no qualms about doing terrorism. She's not going have some moral epiphany, or anything.
I would say that Neo is possibly the most psychotic villain yet. I feel like her love of causing suffering has been underlined much more than the others. Though Roman does seem overjoyed when he thinks he's blown Ruby up in the first episode.

Well if she abandons Cinder's legs for Ruby's normal knees at least expect an "I told you so".
But Neo... Yeah, having beat seven kinds of crap out of Yang in No Breaks, Neo looks like she's going to enjoy killing an unconscious Yang before Raven steps in to rescue her. Neo seems to be batshit nuts.

lol. It was a popular (but non-serious) theory a while ago that Ruby would inadvertently steal Emerald away from Cinder, purely by being nice.
Did you know that Neo is due to talk, at some point? They've had a voice actress lined up for her for a while, even. I imagine she'll say something when seeing either Yang or Roman again.
Though it's Rooster Teeth, so I think it's safe to assume it's funny.
Edit: wait a second, I just caught that in your picture. Nice try, Marcæ, but Emerald would only ever have Cinder's babies. And that might not be possible even with Atlas science.

I think Cinder knows she has been seen by Qrow, so she kind of wants to stay in the background. And really just Cinder... Roman didn't give a fuck. The first scene of the first episode he's just walking down the street with Junior's men like the owns the whole town.

Dunno if he saw her face. It's easy to miss, but when he encounters her, we briefly see Cinder's face being masked by some sort of blur. Presumably Emerald is using her semblance to hide their faces.
Since Cinder then goes out and openly competes in the tournament, this would make sense... Although it could also be a writing oversight.

Yeah, that was an interesting reaction. Though it didn't come entirely out of nowhere, she did say that she liked Vale in her first appearence. So it's nice to see that coming into play here.
I liked her reaction, I think. It shows that she at least has a shred of empathy in her, compared to Cinder, Roman, Neo and Mercury, who all pretty much act like psychopaths. Gives the villains a little variety. It also makes me wonder if she would've ended up as she is if somebody nicer than Cinder had gotten to her first.
This reaction has also ended up fueling predictions that Emerald will betray or leave Cinder, but I still don't see it happening, myself. Considering what she did to Penny and Yang, plus her personal affection towards Cinder, I think she's in too deep.

There's some reason to suspect he might've survived, namely: he was swallowed whole and we didn't see a body, and how it's been hinted that there's more elements to him to be explored.
But I'm not going to think that his return is a sure thing. Because, if he really is dead for good, I'll just make myself sad waiting for a return that doesn't come. But hey, if it is the end of Roman, a fantastic fight scene alongside best henchwoman is still a great way to go.

Also, when that "beheading" happened, did you think that Blake had really been killed, for a moment? I did, and was legit shocked until it was revealed to have been her semblance.

Really, of all the baddies, I want Cinder to get what's coming to her for causing all the turmoil. Adam and Mercury can get eaten by Grimm for all I care. I just can't wish Neo anything worse than retiring to run a candy store in some rural town. I just really have trouble hating her.

Unlikely, Cinder has utterly outplayed everyone. As the saying goes, can't stall the Fall!
...Ahem. Yeah, I rather like Cinder. And, at this point, all of the other major villains too. They're just so badass and entertaining.
Personally, I'm hoping that volume ends with the villains being victorious overall, and the heroes being left at a disadvantage. Would make for an interesting volume 4, with the heroes having to gather their resources and figure out a plan to recover and fight back

It was a pretty spectacular episode, and certainly sets up a very interesting volume 4. The Pyrrha death, though somewhat foreshadowed, was a big shock to me. Also the band splitting up was pretty grim too, but I'm guessing they'll somehow get back together in volume 4
Cinder's fight scenes totally delivered. What a spectacle! I hope she comes back for more later on.

Yeah I noticed the return of the anklecam too.
The finale left a bunch of good story lines open to explore. Also, having trouble coming up with a good team name for the accompanying picture.
Interestingly, Mistral (where Haven academy is) is a long way from Vale, and across an ocean. I'm hoping that some of Volume 4 has the new team trekking across the wilderness outside of the Kingdoms. Would be an interesting inisight into a relatively unknown part of the setting.

That seemed like the natural answer to me too given their journeying, but it breaks the color theme, no? Using RRNJ solves that problem, but the name seems a little random. Oh well, I suppose we'll have the whole hiatus to debate it.

Why does anklecam bug me so much?? The only reason I could think of is that you rarely see it done in film or television. It works in an anime series where you don't have to worry about camera focus and each character has a distinct costume, but it just stands out so much.

I scarcely notice it, myself. Though you pointing them out probably made me notice Cinder's most recent one.
A Freudian analysis would, in fact, suggest that you have unresolved issues with the ankles of animated women. I prescribe a classically Freudian treatment of reclining on a leather couch, and discussing your mother with a therapist.
You might also want to work out unresolved issues with your father, if there are any. I hear that those end very badly.

I was thinking of a CBT approach where I condition myself to not care about scenes and camera angles too much. After all, the scenes do work well for the medium in which RWBY is presented. If that fails then I plan to just go back and rewatch the whole series while playing the RWBY anklecam drinking game. By the end I should have learned to enjoy and look forward to the anklecam.

A bracing round of systematic desensitisation might also do it. First you get yourself comfortable with hip shots, then you edge into appreciating thigh shots, and finally build yourself up to the ankle shots.
Whatever method you choose, I wish you the best of luck. Cinder probably isn't dead, so we can be fairly certain her ankles will be back with a vengeance.

Yeah, it was a clever reference, considering who Pyrrha was based on.
However, they did say that they're going to play with expectations on that. Characters won't necessarily follow the fate of the figure they're based on. So Jaune won't necessarily be burned alive.
> Characters won't necessarily follow the fate of the figure they're based on. So Jaune won't necessarily be burned alive.
No no. I get that. I just thought it was cute that they slipped that in without really calling too much attention to it. Subtle, but thoughtful and cute. That's one of the reasons I like the series.
r04r should be able to get you started with BTSync. It won't happen right away, but I'll make a RWBY directory and fill it with stuff I find - organized in some structure by character or team. I'll have to sort through it all, so don't expect it to appear tomorrow or anything. I usually just take screenshots when I'm watching an episode I've seen before. I have a bit of a visual memory, so I tend to recall when an interesting expression is coming up.

It'd be cool if takes up Roman's weapon and/or some element of his clothes, in volume 4. Would be a nice way to show how close her and Roman were, and would serve as a visual cue as to how her character and motivations might have evolved.
Regardless, any sort of arc with her would be fun. She's one of a few RWBY characters that I find entertaining every time they're onscreen.

> If that's how moons work?
Yeah, moons rotate. Our moon is tidally locked, gravity keeps it rotating at a rate so that same side (mostly) is facing us all the time. (one rotation is the same period as one orbit) If Remnant has more than one and they show different faces at different times, that could explain the weirdness.
I don't know if you've ever played the old Ultima games, but that world had two moons and the combination of phases would determine how and when things would happen. Maybe it's something akin to that?

That's a common way to hear about them, these days. But Rooster Teeth was doing stuff way before their Let's Plays.
Their first major success was the machinima called Red vs. Blue. It's basically a webseries using halo footage with dialogue dubbed over. Anyway, the first episode of that came out in 2003, and is what initially catapulted them into becoming the successful company that they are today.

I like to think that Cardin is simply that good of a bully. In the final episode, we see that he is able to bully Grimm and even robots.

Plus her name comes from Old English. So We're 1/4 of the way there on that Old English team!
Interestingly enough, the old Proto-Indoeuropean root word of her name dealt with things that were burning. The Germanic tribes took it to mean something that had been burnt and thus blackened. The Latins took the same word to mean something burning and therefore bright. The blanc or blanca in French or Spanish that means "white" comes from the same root word that gave English the word "black". White is the new black. :/

Bump 188.
I don't know if anyone here will care, but there's a big controversy just starting up in RWBY, right now.
Very condensed version: Monty Oum, the guy who made created the show, passed away last year. Now Monty's close friend and former co-worker, Shane Newville has released a letter saying that Rooster Teeth clashed with Monty's more free-form animating and creation process, and basically betrayed his creative vision for RWBY. They also, allegedly, made sure to cut ties with Monty's wife, and fired Shane because he wouldn't fall in line with the new direction things were going.
The consensus amongst fans seems to be that, while Shane is obviously biased and might be unrealistic on how large animation companies need to work, RT still comes off looking kinda bad. Hopefully, RT will put out some sort of a statement soon, telling their side.
I can link the letter if anyone cares, but otherwise, bump achieved.

Her stump is probably "glowing" like that because of how she lost her arm.
The guy who cut it off, Adam, seems to have the ability to "charge up" his sword. That makes it glow, and greatly increases its cutting ability. So I think that the orange stuff on Yang's stump is meant to show that Adam's sword was superheated, or had some sort of energy going through it. Similar to what lightsabers do when they cut stuff.
@716,884 (Z-13) @previous (FuckAlms !vX8K53rFBI)
Some sort of robot arm is what's expected to happen, yeah.
Other, more niche ideas I've heard of include an "aura arm", a biological prosthesis or Yang just learning to fight with one arm only. But I strongly prefer the robot arm.

There are 44 days until Volume 4 of RWBY begins.
Therefore, after the first episode of Volume 4 is released, there will only be 15 bumps left. RWBY episodes come out weekly, so the remaining bumps will only go as far as episode 3.

She's driving that bike as early as the yellow trailer. It's literally the first scene of the trailer that introduces Yang. She rides around on it through the series. I think the most obvious use was in Painting the Town when she rides it down the highway to chase down Roman in a mech with Neptune on the back.

Ah, I don't care about Dave's trolling. Don't worry.
For what I'm doing, ideally, I would want a study that shows whale songs decreasing stress levels somehow. Pulse rate, cortisol levels, whatever. Or maybe some EEG study that shows "relaxation areas" in the brain activating.
There's a lot of non-academic indication that whale songs are a popular relaxation sound. Like YouTube videos or an article on The Guardian. But I want something more compelling than that, since this ties into my dissertation.
Of course, that supposed relaxation effect might not apply to everyone.

RWBY actually does have quite a few kid fans, which the creators hadn't been expecting. This made them a bit nervous when volume 3 took such a dark turn.
There's an amusing anecdote where the series producer, Gray Haddock, met a guy and his kid daughter at a convention. The daughter said that she really liked Penny. Gray worriedly took the father aside and warned him that something very bad was about to happen to Penny (in case you didn't know, Penny gets cut apart).

Have you seen Barbara?? (the woman who voices her) She practically looks just like Yang. She's not even voice acting either. That's just her normal voice.
@727,807 (RWBY Rhubarb? !!iNo3FkiZx) > btw, Marcus, RT is currently releasing World of Remnants about the continents and the Kingdoms, a lot of interesting lore coming out of it. You can find them on YouTube, if you're interested.
I think I've seen them all already, but it would be nice to have them all in one place.

Yeah, I know about Barb. The crew even used to joke about how similar she is to Yang. Although, with recent developments, that's become less true.

It was a great start. I liked the new dynamics with the villains. CEM were clearly off-balance, which was a change for them. Also I can't wait to see that batshit insane guy go up against RNJR/JNNR.
I enjoyed that little shove that Emerald gave Mercury too, just to make sure she was standing close to Cinder. The hero worship is alive!

Also! Some very interesting lore about the Grimm, if you're interested. I'll have to explain a bit of context...
As you may recall, RWBY has a video game. The villain in it, Dr. Merlot, recently had a song about him made by RWBY's music guy. Merlot's song is all about his experiments on the Grimm, and one of the lines states that the Grimm were "crafted in a netherworld".
In the episode that was just released, we see Grimm coming out of pools of something. As you may have noticed, the pools show the moon being whole, but when the camera pans up, the moon is shattered. So it looks like Merlot was correct, and the Grimm are coming from some sort of different dimension. Which deepens the mystery of what hell Salem is.

They actually can't. Dust stops working when it leaves Remnant's atmosphere, and all of humanity's technology is powered by dust (well, maybe not literally all of it, but a rocket would be).
I'm not sure the Grimm are coming from the moon, though. But that is an interesting possibility.

That's not actually Marcus, Virgil, it's Hadrian, and both he and Julius agree that Augustus and Claudius were less successful than Tiberius.
And needless to say, Domitian, Vespasian and Titus feel you're taking all of this far too seriously. Perhaps you'd like to discuss it further once you've calmed down, hmm?

No, he really isn't referred to as that. You're deflecting again. Why don't you go and cool off a bit and then we'll discuss how you went from bump 351 to 354 in 2 days, ok? Go simmer down a little.

This can additionally be seen in his inability to remember how many days he counted when he claims 3 days passed between bumps in @728,741 (Z-21) and then just 24 minutes later he claims you made 3 bumps in the course of just 2 days in @728,748 (Z-21)

You've just bumped it twice in one day (something you've done several times I've noticed). That is cheating. Hell, you might as well just bump it every 4 hours and then claim 6 bumps in a day.

Actually, you know what - here's the final definitive proof that this thread has failed - bump number 328 happened on the first day of the 11th month of this thread (post #722,701). That means that 30 or 31 days later will be the 12th month, i.e the completion of a year.
And yet...328 + 30/31 = 358/359.
So in 3 or 4 days, when the bar up there says "12 months after the original post" and you're still nowhere close to bump 365, I shall bask in the glow of your verified failure.

New episode today!
It was pretty much just character introductions and building, but that's fine. Good, even. It had lot of emotional scenes, and a lot of interesting lore, and set up some good plot threads.
It was interesting to see a hunter out in the villages. Presumably, this guy had completed hunter academy, and was better trained than RNJR. But he still got overwhelmed. Worrying.
Also, Marcus, when you watch it, pay attention to the butler. Notice anything interesting? Heh, maybe he's a relative to a certain someone?

How on earth could you possibly know this? You know the real name of everyone who posts on MC? I doubt you even know the real name of the regular 'namefags' on here, let alone the anons, so isn't it a bit silly to say you "don't think anyone here is named Phil"?
