Each is objectively better than the previous one, except for a few minor downsides. I'm still on 8.1 (legitimate license), and it is excellent. I haven't seen the Metro menu since I installed Classic Start (part of the Classic Shell package) over a year ago. The operating system boots up a lot faster, and in general runs better. This is the case for 10 as well, however I will not be upgrading to that until the first major "service pack" or equivalent comes out as a rule.

If you are concerned about that, go use linux. They've backported all of the tracking software to previous versions of windows (7 and 8) as well and pushed them out through windows update. But if you're a reasonable person who is concerned about that, take 15 minutes of your time to hit up the google machine and find out what buttons to click to turn that all off. Since all of it can be turned off. I don't really like that microsoft is doing this, but they've done it to all versions of windows, so your complaint makes no sense.

Microsoft fixed their piracy checks, it seems. I'm sure it's possible to still pirate it, but I've not seen anyone properly figure it out. There are some cracks, but all of them seem to fuck with windows update which is a big no-no in my book. The only good way to pirate 7 was to install a layer between Windows and your BIOS that tricked Windows 7 into thinking you had an OEM install with SLIC keys in the BIOS. There are no such equivalents for the later windows versions as far as I know.

No idea. Probably just technology evolving on both sides. I'm sure a proper crack will exist eventually, if it doesn't already. It is very difficult to be sure that what you're getting is legit in this area, so many people peddling malware pretending they're cracks. Or, non-proper cracks which fuck up the updating mechanism which is just a bad idea.

I recommend using a virtual machine, and making sure it cannot access any of the other machines on your local network. https://www.virtualbox.org/ is the easy way to do that.
