Solna, north of Stockholm, for example says it is in desperate need of volunteers, while Götene in west Sweden has put out an appeal for families who are "open and curious" about other cultures to help provide support to vulnerable asylum seekers, by offering them a room in a family home.

With limited space in the house, asylum seekers now sleep in the bedrooms of Svens wife and two daughters. For himself Sven has built a small shack outside the house.
