Ubuntu is quite nice. I mainly use Android and Ubuntu now so I'm already in a post Windows world.
I remember the days when leaving Windows was fraught with peril but now as more and more stuff either is cross-platform or moves to mainframes accessed over the Internet (or "the cloud"), OS matters less than ever before. Unless you're a hardcore gamer you won't miss Windows at all.
