is there a way to automate stuff like i lead them into the room, hit the button and they get gassed or room fills with lava or something

fill the room with pigs and light them on fire. they'll burn each other to death and also it cooks the pork chops

i tried doing that and i had to repeatedly set them on fire cause the fire would just go out, also not all of them died so i had to finish them off.
I tried flooding it with lava too but then i had to put that out and i ended up flooding it with water
