it's really cool, but they are measuring by kind of an indirect means. even if no other explanation except "aliens" works to solve the mystery you won't get many people believing the "detection" is genuine. We can't even agree that Global Warming is happening and what the causes are. AND one whole side of that debate claims the other side is manufacturing evidence to gain "grant money." Even in the comments of that article people are saying, "just more grant money grabs," and, "it's obviously just asteroids" -as if they have any fucking clue what the data even means.
So even if alien Dyson Sphere is the most logical answer, short of them visiting us there will never really be enough proof that's what's happening. Even if we pick up radio signals people will just claim it's faked or "our own radio waves bounced back at us."
it's a really, really interesting find and it might be more interesting than we expect, but, it could also just be that kepler IS detecting an asteroid field or something like that which would be a breakthrough in it's own right. afaik it would be the first detection of an orbiting asteroid field outside of our own solar system which is pretty amazing. Kepler is one sensitive instrument, i'll say that.
