My current service is outrageous. I have Sprint and pay around $40 a month. The phone is a shitty LG Rumor Touch that doesn't work half the time and I don't get any reception within a mile of my home.
I think I'm going to switch over to AT&T and get on my family's family plan. It would be loads cheaper, save for the the actual phone, which would be a smartphone. I may not switch over at all, but I want to know about phones before I get a new one.
I really like Windows phones. The touch is more responsive than on iPhones I've used and I like the way they look. I'm not too familiar with the Android OS though.

I like Verizon with my Droid 1. I got it in November 2009, so I will be able to upgrade this November.
Androids are pretty awesome, even for minimal use. Don't get a Windows phone, they're not there yet for mobiles.
Touch is better on the iPhone than it is on the Droid, but it's not worth getting some shitty service and sucking Apple's cock for an iPhone. If you're rich and can afford it and want to look like a hipster, get an iPhone, if not, get a Droid. Make sure you get one with both a physical keyboard and a touch screen; they're the best. The Droid 2 will probably do you good.

Also, don't get a blackberry. Even with the improved trackpad over the trackball, the keys are extremely small and it lacks a touch screen. They are not fun or easy to use, trust me. Blackberries are made for old people.

Droids are most accessible and have the best community. There is a really strong App store and you can get lots of Apps for free. They also tend to work a lot better and have more documentation than Apple products.

Plenty of Mac users are dolts that feel special for using an operating system that isn't made by Microsoft.
That said, I strongly recommend an Android phone and installing pure, vanilla Android on it, if you don't mind the extra effort.

I have the iPhone 4 so I can only really speak about it. It does everything I need and I love it more than anything in the world. I don't know about the other phones and you may like them better but the iPhone is ok with me.

Irrespective of the choice of a phone you will end up making (crap english) Before you switch carriers, find someone near by with say AT&T and verify how well it works around and inside your house room to room. All things being equal, Sprint should offer better service. However you may be much closer to an AT&T cell tower? Sprint is currently faster then AT&T but the bottom line for any connection is location location location. Where you live, where you use the phone most often, where you work and the drive home. If its a big city with freeways? AT&T is plagued with call drops.
Current cell signals penetrate buildings poorly. Very soon you will find Verizon with the best penetration over all, and later after AT&T implements the purchase of Qualcomms 700 MHz spectrum, which will take many months to one year to implement. New phones designed for this will be necessary. The same is true for Verizon, with no word on what Sprint is going to do. They have unused Nextel spectrum which again will require a new phone.
Me? being in the business, if I had a phone that works well enough to hold on to it for one more year? I would!!! Buying anything brand new now, when its going to really be obsolete soon enough - I need say no more eh

If it were up to Engineers "they" "we" would say no more sell no more - Marketing on the other hand demands the selling of more and more yet there is that limited Spectrum that is already as Max stress. So the only option is for more Spectrum.
This is a good thing - Problem is: What is now available is the USA UHF TV channels now vacated of recent date. 700 MHz which Verizon always owned for its original Air Touch Analog system. 700 MHz offers far better building penetration as well as more bang for the buck re lower power required at the cell phone end = lower battery drain = more battery life = maybe a safer Cell to brain penetration experience.
Bottom line is - New phones no matter what O/S and in the case of Crap AT&T they still have to get Feds permission for the purchase of Qualcomm Spectrum and then its a lot of new Hardware and Antennas all new Antennas at each Cell site. A HUGE undertaking. At least this go round AT&T will dump the T1 back haul lines and go full Microwave or Fiber in some cases.
