There are a lot of covers and instrumentals on their earlier works. Rust in Peace is the first album that feels like it's truly them. The following Countdown to Extinction wasn't bad either, but I'm probably remembering these through the ears of a young boy discovering metal for the first time. In any case, Metallica, while they put out some good songs, just didn't wow me quite as much.

I firmly believe Seasons in the Abyss or Reign in Blood was far better than anything Metallica has ever released. I'm just agreeing to disagree at this point.

Slayer is kind of ass though. Kerry King couldn't write a melodious solo to save his life, and Tom Araya is probably the only metal singer with a worse voice than Dave Mustaine. The band is basically unlistenable.

melvins are better than metallica and you cant get much slower than them unless you were listening to sunn
metallica fucking sucks dude just get over it, except for robert trujillo he's a legitimately alright guy and infectious grooves was cool for what it was. you might as well be listening to aerosmith.
