Topic: Male sex toys

So, I got into a somewhat awkward (read: drunk) conversation with an enlightened, gender studies degreed female friend about male sex toys and their role in society. It was spawned because of a series of viral posts about some new automated contraption that looks hilarious. Anyways, she admitted that there is a certain "squick" factor for most of the toys like Fleshlight, and sex dolls, because they are weirdly anatomous but detached. She then went on to put some gender theory behind it, that men will only contine to objectify women because they own and use objects, literally, to simulate sex. When I brought up female sex toys, her reasoning of suppor was two-fold: 1) they often do not look detached from a human (at least the trendy vibrators) and 2) female sexuality requires a bit of a loft considering the repression that has been fostered. I totally agree with her on that last point, but I think it's a bit dismissive to call out guys with sex toys creeps, especially if they have a hard time saying in the real world.

What are your thoughts?

I don't get the fear she has about men. If anything, sex robots will empower women. Except for the professional prostitutes

The whole "people will objectify other people because they own and use objects" sounds dodgy to begin with. Is there a concrete example that one one leads to the other?

I always wanted one of those "Real Doll" sex toys. They're out of my grasp though. Too exspensive. My people would'nt approve either. They'd be looking at me strangely if I had a life-sized sex toy delivered to the homestead. It would get awkward fast.
