But, those are just some of the things that I am missing. So fuck Windows 10, back to 7. I tried for a couple of weeks but everything is broken all the time and its not worth the hassle.

Anyone happy with their "upgrade"?

I've only really used Windows 10 on my tablet.
I sometimes question rather I should have stuck with Windows 8.1, but I am liking 10.

If you have a license for 8 I would recommend that over 7, it is basically just a better, faster 7 if you install something like classic start (from the classic shell package). I have not yet tried 10. It would surprise me if they managed to fuck up security, how is it worse?

Could you provide more information on how they fucked up search, security and startup? Search has been pretty much fucked up since windows 7, so I can't imagine it getting much worse. It would also surprise me if their latest OS was weaker in the security department, so could you please elaborate?

I've had no success. Start menu doesn't work and search doesn't work so I have to dig my files out manually. My display driver crashes, and then everything else does, updates won't install, Windows error messages keep telling me about security things that windows can't start, and my cpu won't go below 30%.

How's your experience going?

Search does nothing, and sits blankly idle. The start menu either doesn't work or is blank except for the options at the bottom.
Microsoft security services can't initialise, or some shit, and I get constant warnings.

Oh, and start ups take around 7 minutes.

I heard windows 10 will perform lots better if you do a clean install after that upgrade shit. Upgrading windows versions has always been really bad

Wat? I didn't have any problems with 7, and my laptop is 18 months old. So yeah, I'm looking to spend a couple of grand on a new one soon, but this ones ok with an i7 processor and 8g ram

All the problems have gone now anyway. Firefox even kept all of my tabs open from win10 to 7, yay!

Reads like you couldn't get a display driver to install on 7, so double booting would double your problems with it also not being installable on 8.

No. Windows 10 crashed programs because of a display driver. The driver wouldn't update because of errors. That was just one small annoyance, amongst others.

i haven't had any problems, save one. Occasionally my monitor will flicker on and off, it's never done that before. i did some reading and it turns out that for some reason some ASUS monitors will do that. technically it started after i upgraded to windows 10 AND upgraded my video driver. i've since gotten another video driver update, and the problem has mostly gone away. One thing i noticed is that it happened more frequently when i was using audio on the monitor, switching to a different audio device (headphones) with it's own driver seems to have stopped the problem almost entirely.

That's really been my only issue. and i'm liking more than 7, tbh. it boots a lot faster too, 15-20 seconds. maybe less. 7 took twice that.

the only thing i dislike is the "all apps" menu, it's pretty well cumbersome. i bet it can get unwieldy for power users.

That's actually an informative post as I noticed my brother's computer does the exact same thing on Windows 7.
My theory is that his graphics card is overloaded due to his stupid matrix live background seeping up virtual memory.

yeah, i know, right? i'm planning on an entirely new build but i haven't decided what processor to build around yet. i made a whole thread about it. either a 5960k or a 6700k. but probably before that i'm going to be looking at a new monitor anyway, maybe a 3440x1440 21:9. maybe. the IPS panels are fucking gorgeous. we'll see. they are still quite pricey and i'll probably end up with 2560x1440 since the 144hz 1ms ips panels aren't as wallet breaking

mine is confirmed not a graphics card "overload," i checked logs during crashes and the system logs zero events at those times. Whatever is happening it's happening in the monitor. it never happened with windows 7, but after 10 did a patch it started doing it. It seems like it happens more when it's using the nvidea sound drivers to push the speakers on the monitor. When i run sound through my headphones and switch default sound away from the monitor it seems to stop. at first i thought win 10 was periodically putting my monitor into and out of sleep mode, so i disabled all of that and it still did it. But, mostly when i was trying to do something with sounds, like watch a video. so i've decided there must be a conflict with the nvidea sound driver, windows 10, and asus monitors. at least the model asus monitor i have.

I kept Windows 7 on my laptop but upgraded my desktop to Windows 10. I had a couple registry errors that were easily fixed. Nothing is broken and it seems to work just fine for me.
