Topic: I noticed something about wrestling today.

When you have all of the flash of LED entrance sets and even LED screens on the ring aprons it distracts from the important part of wrestling, the characters doing battle in the ring.
I noticed that when you have a minimal entrance stage and a basic ring then the focus turns to the characters and their motives during a match.
This is the fundamental part of wrestling. It's suppose to be like superheroes and supervillians doing battle in a sanctioned environment. Even during the more adult-oriented times of wrestling it had a more complex philosophy and psychology that is simply lost today in major promotions such as WWE and TNA.
It's sad knowing that WWE will never return to such old school production besides their one night a year "Old School" specials.

I remember watching wrestling when I was about 10. I distinctly remember a commentator having his mind blown because one of the wrestlers had a bruise and it shook me. I realised that no wrestlers ever got bruises so they were not really fighting. I think I agree with you. It may unintentionally play into the stereotype that homosexuals are flamboyant or lack substance. It could also distract from the personal celebration of the homosexuality of individual wrestlers.
In essence this is a sport celebrating homosexuality. So yes it is bad to move focus away from the wrestlers.

WWE is probably the only mainstream company that produces it and it's because they were around since the 1980's which was a time when wrestling was more in the public light. Now you mostly see several independent promotions putting on shows for no more than say 1,000 or 5,000. It's because this new niche demographic views it as an artform instead of a sport.

The days of wrestling as a popular sport are over. There maybe minor boom periods, but since its secrets have been revealed and is freely accessed over the Internet. There is no going back. Hopefully, traditional wrestling doesn't die anytime soon since there is history there.

C the thing is about entertainment - there is always some kind of audience for just about anything. People still go to dog fights illegal or not.
I think just once I watched 12 minutes of a soap opera just to see wot the fuss was about and that was from the side lines of the studio at edge of production stage.
Horrid acting yet over they years many a famous actress emerged.
And as to who cheers for whom? Usually its the person on the winning side yet people always have their own fav actor to cheer on.
99% of cowboy indian movies have cowboys winning - Not to many real Indians cheering on the cowboys - Ask me some time to tell the tell of how I got the Indians to win just once in live action.
As a kiddlet age 10 I delivered the LA Times 7 days a week - Crappy job mostly do to having to collect the money back then - But the Times offered free passes to lots of stuff including the roller derby - I found it exciting - Ambulance wood come in to pick up a injured girl - I look in paper next day to find out how she was doing - Nothing in paper - took me about 3 views of roller derby to catch on to it being scripted.

Was a VP at MCA/Universal - for development of wot we called Discovision - First laser recording for videos - Look up who owns all the basic patents for any kind of disk recording that uses a laser. Product did Fail but long term the money from patents and licensing makes huge profits - Still puts cash in my wallet AND I did not invent one bit of that technology but it wood not have happened without me at get-go.
So it was access to the many production stages at Universal studios - Best memories were of the end of no bra bans for TV commercials with the first new bra commercial using 34 women who all were 34 B's but all were selected for a different shape - Same cup size to prove that the one bra wood fit all - I forget over the many weeks how many girls were selected for the commercial - maybe 4 or 5? Worst the very very worst part of that job was - Two things - The CEO Founder was fucking mean at times - Yelled at top of lungs - Famous Hollywood guy who twice lost cases b4 the US Supreme court
The 2nd loss was MCA vs Sony Betamax - Lew Wasserman the CEO did not want anyone to tape his vast library of MCA movies - Court decided it was just time delay viewing - Lew said to many an engineer - Y cant I just stamp a movie on Vinyl? 50 consultants said no way never can be done. I said - Have no clue wot the limit for recording is but no how to find out - Not that I actually even did that part of the prelim Scientific work but sure new a Top PhD Science/Math wizz at Hughes R&D who could do that level of Math and Physics -
The other thing was that all VP's had to sit in meeting after reading scripts as final sign off for a movie production - I kept saying I have no clue from a script about any element re making a movie - Still forced to go through that rotten process. Really really really hated that part

Now many VPs at MCA reported to an Executive VP - My fate was not so much that good cause I was stuck reporting to the CEO - I can gripe a lot about that buttttt I did learn a couple of valuable lessons I wood not have gotten otherwise. I also think I failed them in a couple of ways - I should have minored in Chemical Engineering instead of Law - at least for the Laser Disk R&D because in the end it was Chemistry fail and not Electronics Engineering that caused the product to Fail
