Some people will always take an immediate disliking to a newcomer if they find their outlook distasteful.
It's on the onus of the newcomer to persevere and ignore the hazing. It also should be for them to lower their expectations for acceptance if they've previously had bad reception elsewhere. I've always been notoriously hated wherever I go.

This might sound like an asshole thing to say, but I think it's a good thing that the insults happen and the person can potentially not bother because of said insults.
