I downloaded Wikipedia in 2010 and I use it as my unadulterated, primary factual reference.
If I need help with a newer topic I will use the live version, but I definitely don't consider it to be canon.

Took 5 fucking links/searches to get an idea re size - this is dated but at least it gives you an idea
How big is the database?
As of 2012, the combined size of the databases being backed up was between 4 and 6 TB for the copies of the Primary database, and perhaps 27 TB for the images and media
More info on growth rate - actually a lot of growth rate history to extrapolate - In a rush to get to a cell base station to change a setting -
That of course is only for one language.

Well, the English Wikipedia probably accounts for about half of all database content. Media is shareable between all language versions, although this may not take the Wikimedia Commons content into account.
