Count the fingers underneath the touching ones for 7 and 8 including them.
There are 5 fingers so if you count by ten you have 50.
Count the fingers above the touching ones excluding them.
You have 5 fingers so now you times the amount of fingers on one hand by that on the other.
So you have 3 x 2 which equals 6.
Now add 50 and 6 together to get 56.
Therefore 7 x 8 = 56.

Most ten year olds know their times tables though right? This is a trick for very young children and not meant to actually be used.
