If so then pull up a chair near any outlet in class and run on hard AC as a temp solution.

Tried replacing the battery? Does it just not charge at all, or stay at the same %, or not hold a charge, or what? If you remove the battery and plug in the charger, does it turn on?

no it doesn't charge at all
sometimes it'll run off AC when plugged in but not quite enough to hold the charge constant, it still slowly drops

i opened it up but can't even tell what the battery is! everything in it is anonymous black blocks. i hate this.

The DC power jack (the thing the charger tip plugs into on the laptop) sounds broken. I've done one of these on an HP laptop, parts can usually be found on eBay and if you're handy with a screwdriver it's a 15 minute job.

I passed along the model number to a huge company with lots of repair people but got no help re that model - Sorry
I think Metæ's point is spot on because that port is subject to lots of wear and structurally is not all that good.
Read top to bottom and it makes a strong case for going through all the steps IF you can keep that machine alive plugged in to AC Power - I have run into a good batter not being allowed to charge even with electronic hardware all ok because the software will not allow it to charge. That link explains it so give it a read.
Different batteries require insight - Some like the one you have lithium-ion cells - Long life requires as much discharge as you can get away with and then time to fully charge again.

identified the jack obvs but i couldn't see anything i could do with it
not like a laptop it's more like a lil tablet where everything is super small n tight n anonymous n glued in

Yea that is the sad key
If it won't run off of AC - Other then a simple bad connector at the tablet itself you have eliminated the original batter charger and connector because you have a replacement - You are going to have to find someone who at low cost can service it.
Did you get any prior feeling in the last few days of life the battery life was much less then usual? Or was it a sudden failure?

the last charger i had, for the past few months it only charged if you kept it in a specific position, otherwise it'd be "plugged in not charging" or just running off battery
it's been a while
i assumed it was the charger

That kind of problem usually means its a mechanical connection issue. The cable or connector so that just the right position and you get current flow.
Battery life normal says it was getting charged until all of a sudden charger cannot really connect to let it charge again. Sounds like a simple connector at the tablet - Not that its easy to get to but should not cost much except the minimum per hour many charge even if its a $1 dollar part and few minutes to replace.
Best guess is its not going to cost much so be careful by telling them battery charged normal until you had to jiggle the charger to keep the unit charging - that way they dare not soak you for a costly battery.
