Egyptian glyphs were not "communicating through pictures" in the way that you are thinking of it. Classical Egyptian had a full, 24-letter alphabet, as well as glyphs that indicated parts of speech, syntax, etc. Egyptian grammar is similar to that of Hebrew and Arabic, as they are all the same language family. The pictographic elements were used in conjunction with spelling out the words with the alphabet, to offer clarification or context. For example, the word for sky was pt. So, when written, it was spelled out, then a pictograph of the sky was placed above it.
