They should learn how to write on a paper and do their math with their head. Don't let the tablet and computer take over everything. And definitely not on the younger kids. And the creative side isn't needed. Kids just need a paper, hell even some rocks and sticks can do the trick. I serious believe it will get the creativity running for a lot of kids, but drawing works good. Why make everything digital?
Let's disregard the Minecraft part and focus on the digital vs. paper argument being presented here.

eh, i guess. but i've got 2 nephews one of which knows some programming now. he does web dev stuff for fun, and it's his life long love of everything digital that's going to be his palette in the future. it was actually Redstone and Minecraft mods that got him interested in logic and coding. And, for all the "coloring paper" and "rocks and sticks" i played with when i was a kid i'm not making fine art today nor am i a geologist.
whoever wrote that kinda sounds like an old fuddy duddy who doesn't "get it" and thinks TV is rotting kids brains and that comic books makes them dumb.
maybe it's that there is super duper low value to being able to write in cursive and do complex math in my head these days. i can keep track of way more with a calculator with a memory button than i can keep up with in my head. Also, i bet not a lot of professional accountants do more than simple math in their head, they'll use a calculator a computer and printouts. nothing is written anymore, and what kind of math is he even talking about? Anything beyond 6th grade math requires a calculator for most things. is he literally talking about shit like multiplication tables?
i understand what he's saying, but really, we don't teach kids how to shoe horses anymore for a reason, i mean c'mon. some skills just fall out of use literally because technology makes it obsolete. there's no reason to force kids to learn how to use a slide rule or write stuffy essays when they're more likely to be a mechanic than a fucking english major.
what schools need to do is start teaching vocations again and stop trying to force college prep on everyone. teachers complain that kids aren't engaged anymore and don't learn and it's no wonder when everything in the world is more interesting than TAKS test prep all day every day.
