So I've noticed that there's lots of collectible shit for sale. I don't mean vintage toys, but new objects that are the equivalents of Franklin mint plates that you don't eat off of, but have a picture of President Nixon on it and you display it. So that means today comic, movie, game merchandise presumably for adults to buy for whatever the fuck instead of collecting thousands of ceramic thimbles with little painted art on them. All that collectible shit is a scam. A lot of the things that will be worth money 30-40 years from now will be stuff like mint condition electronics, double so if it's the first version of something like those hologholographic phones,or a dev version of occulis rift.

I got a good pile of plastic shit myself now that I think about it. All put together I could'nt get very much for it. My great-grand kids won't get much either for my old Star Wars toys, VHS tapes, and Stephen King hardbacks, honestly.

I got like four of them. The problem is finding a buyer. I mean what kind of brain-dead ape needs an action-figure that badly. unless you're buying ultra high end stuff, like art or something, it's not worth buying stuff with the expectation of selling it for profit. just buy/collect stuff you like for your own enjoyment and pay whatever you're comfortable with.

Adding something my ex wife collected years ago. This power pole electrical insulator was originally clear glass. Turned purple in sun which years later made it valuable.

Most of the glass is dug up from regular old trash dumps. This stuff has become so collectible its now loaded with fake stuff. Coke bottles etc.

As noted in the colorless glass description above, small amounts of manganese dioxide was used as a decolorizer to offset the iron impurities present in virtually all sands. This colorless glass will variably turn amethyst upon long term exposure to sunlight.
Been a lot of years since those trips. One trip with friends for back packing in the Sierras and the friends introduced us to this glass. Had to cut one trip short due to a snow storm in Sierras and friend suggested the Hwy 49 trip and he actually found an old dump and dug up several old bottles and perhaps an insulator. I think we did 3 or so dumps in one day. Wife and I were not into the dump digging and later we just searched out Antique shops along the Hwy to buy retail.
