...what is your view of Immanuel Velikovsky: brilliant lateral thinker, or batshit crazy pseudo-academic?

I R Electronics Engineer not a Scientist. There is a world of difference between. Starting salaries are also more better for Scientists. Part of that is because many are employed as Engineers with a BSEE degree but most Scientists are hired with a PhD and its near impossible to get a job in Science with a BS degree.

Engineers are paid to design marketable products which make use phenomena, Science guys discover.
Scientist/Physicists, are paid to discover - explain new physical phenomena. And most important of all its the Scientist/Physicists, who prove something is possible. Hand a problem over to an Engineer and spend lots of money on something that might not even be possible.

So for instance in my current work in Satellites. Orbits are determined by Astrophysicist/Scientist/Physicists/ Propulsion for the rockets and Satellites the same, with the addition of Chemists.
Engineers design the guts of the Satellites and ground control equipment. (excluding the guts/propulsion)

Immanuel Velikovsky. Very little actually. Long ago I read or more or less skimmed chapters of one of his books Worlds in Collision. Only because one of Carl Sagan's books devoted a lot of pages to Velikosky's theories re formation of a couple of planets and how that influenced Earth. Only after your question did I look him up with Google/Wiki. Much to read but I hit the bottom line on Wiki cause when I read he had become persona non Grata at Uni campuses I needed to see wot beyond Carl Sagans put down of Velikovsky theories - wot more was out of wack with that guy. Appears MUCH LoL

Oh and I see its good I only skimmed that one book I read. His Science was so off base over all - Did not look at his general practice, psychiatry and psychoanalysis nor am I qualified to judge such.

We do have evidence that he dances, at least. I asked him to post some pics of his beach adventures in the past, but he wouldn't for some reason.
