how was it limited? there was about 7 expansions and it wasn't really the content that made it good, it was the music and overall charm

It lacks the features and options that the sequels, yes even the fourth, added.
Sims 2 at the end of it's lifespan had nearly everything Sims 1 did except with more added. The only thing that was exempt was Superstar.
Sims 3 eventually ended up having everything Sims 2 did except done a bit better except Open for Business was shitty store packs.
Too soon to call for Sims 4, however.
If the music was what made Sims 1 standout then such music also got transferred over to the other games. Still, Superstar and Makin' Magic were fun to all hell. I should maybe reinstall Sims 1 since I uninstalled the beast that was Sims 3. I guess that means I'd have Sims 1, 2, 4 now, funny since 4 seems like a sequel to 1 and 2 than it does 3 despite inheriting 3's features.
