Did it come with windows 7 or 8? If it's 7 there should be a sticker on the box with your license code and version of windows. You then download an iso of that version of windows, burn it to a cd and then reinstall windows using the license key.
If it came with windows 8 and there is no sticker it's a little bit more spooky, but I think you just need to reinstall and it automatically goes well. Not entirely sure, would try in a separate partition first.

Cathy. Win 8 when broken will recognize attempts as correction. May require a hard turn off then on again and might take 4 to 8 tries. It should then go through a much better reboot.

Don't have a clue why you said no. Normally if one could you wood go to the start screen and type in automatic repair. Assuming you cannot even do that - there is a counter that sees you attempting to reboot the computer. After a few tries of fail - it should put you in the automatic repair cycle. Of course lots of stuff can break and prevent that.
With Win 7 one can just do the f8 and do a safe mode start and select a system restore point.

Of course it will not give you a fresh install. Nothing in Cathy's post says its going to take a fresh install to fix the problem. Maybe it will but the fresh install should be a last resort.

Right, those are viruses and general crapware. Reinstalling takes about an hour or two, it's much more effective than shooting yourself in the foot by clicking an ad for "amazing pc optimizer!!!!!!!11111oneoneone".

Also a review of the built in tool Task Manager You can find reasons for grunge. I just looked and found something I needed to disable at start up. Thanks for reminding me to look.

this. cccleaner isn't a cure. nuking your system and doing a fresh install is a cure-all. just casual web use for a year is enough to warrant a good nuking.
i would never nuke an os except internet use fucks enough shit up over time (that cccleaner and virus scanners won't fix) that it's way easier to not fuck with fixing shit.

Odd thing about any of the cleaners I use is - Each finds junk the other does NOT.
Advanced system care, which cleans browser cache's and does not require closing a browser always finds junk in Firefox even after running ccleaner and or Glary utilities. Both of those require closing browser which I am most happy to do. And I mean ASC has found 100 MB or more of junk. But it of course does not get rid of lots of stuff ccleaner does.
Ah shit. I just ran ccleaner and wiped out a background calculation which is supposed to take a couple of days to complete - Will just have to reset and start again - no big deal as its for work and only need run it on a supercomputer and get it done quickly. Was going to pocket that extra cash - no big deal.

My computer might have a virus or malware since it is running slowly even after uninstalling a bunch of a shit from the hard drive, still speed up after doing that though, but whenever I run Malware Bytes and Microsoft Security Essentials they all tell me there is no threats.
Plus there is that fucking QuickShare program that installed again and apparently I cannot uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs. I know it's fucking malware and I had to remove it several fucking times from my brother's computer.
